K2 Pure Solutions and PACC Services Collaborate with ZeroUp Energy
In a significant move towards sustainable transit solutions,
K2 Pure Solutions and
PACC Services, LLC have entered into a
Hydrogen Supply Agreement (HSA) with
ZeroUp Energy, Inc.. This partnership is aimed at fostering the transition to zero-emission fleets in California. The core objective is to provide a dedicated supply of low-carbon hydrogen sourced from K2's facility located in
Pittsburg, California. This initiative supports
ZeroUp's mobile fueling programs designed for transit agencies spread across both Northern and Southern California.
The Hydrogen Supply Agreement foregrounds the pressing requirements set forth by California's
Innovative Clean Transit (ICT) regulation, which mandates public transit systems to migrate towards zero-emission technologies including the use of renewable fuels for fuel cell electric buses. K2's hydrogen will be produced using a method designed to meet the stringent renewable fuel standards dictated by ICT, tackling one of the pivotal challenges for the widespread adoption of fuel cell buses in California.
With over a decade of expertise in hydrogen fueling,
ZeroUp specializes in mobilizing hydrogen logistics and fueling operations, presenting an extensive reservoir of knowledge geared towards public transit programs. Their existing partnerships with agencies, such as
Omnitrans in San Bernardino, demonstrate their commitment and capability in supplying necessary hydrogen under multi-year contracts. Furthermore, their collaboration with the
Stanislaus Regional Transit Authority (StanRTA) signifies their proactive approach in equipping transit systems with fuel cell electric buses, addressing their hydrogen fueling needs aptly.
“Transit authorities require a dependable supply at a price point that maintains feasibility. When this supply is derived from a method tailored to meet California's renewable fuel standards, it alleviates a significant compliance burden,” remarked
Jonathan Palacios-Avila, Executive at ZeroUp Energy. He acknowledged K2's reputable production history and emphasized that the hydrogen provided would conform to the quality expectations necessary for transit programs. The collaboration establishes a robust supply chain to buoy the fueling initiatives in California, supporting various transit agencies reliant upon it.
The hydrogen generated at K2's Pittsburg facility is produced as a byproduct of its chlor-alkali manufacturing process. This pathway not only assures a low-carbon footprint but also negates the need for natural gas reforming or separate electrolysis infrastructure. K2's hydrogen output aims to meet or surpass the
SAE J2719 purity standards vital for fuel cell vehicle applications. K2 anticipates commercial availability by
Q3 2026, with
PACC Services stepping in as the exclusive commercial partner to manage contracting, logistics, and overall supply chain activities.
“This partnership highlights ZeroUp’s operational know-how and its established relationships within the transit community. K2's facilities are rooted in a history of operational excellence and process safety, producing hydrogen through a low-carbon method intended to meet California's stringent renewable fuel standards. This aspect is invaluable for the transit authorities that ZeroUp collaborates with,” stated
Howard Brodie, CEO of K2 Pure Solutions.
Additionally,
Andrew Carman,
CEO of PACC Services, remarked on the transformative potential of the ICT regulation, indicating a steady demand for low-carbon hydrogen within California's transit sector. The collaboration among K2’s dedicated hydrogen production, ZeroUp's field expertise, and PACC's commercial framework represents a much-needed solution for agencies craving reliable supply partners who can meet both compliance and economic requirements.
The execution of the ZeroUp HSA signifies a substantial addition to PACC's escalating portfolio of agreements aimed at bridging the gap between hydrogen production and end-user markets, thereby setting the stage for a successful commercial launch that aligns with California's progressive transition towards clean energy solutions.
