Kato Works Launches Solar Power Facility to Reduce CO₂ Emissions



Kato Works, led by President Ko Matsukawa, has marked a significant step towards sustainability by officially commencing operations of its solar power facility at the Gunma Factory, starting June 1, 2026. This initiative is designed to support the expanded use of renewable energy while significantly cutting down CO₂ emissions.

Purpose and Expected Impact


The solar power system, which was installed on the rooftop of the Gunma Factory in Ota City, serves a dual purpose: it not only aims to implement renewable energy solutions but also strives for a substantial reduction in the environmental footprint of the company’s operations. This strategic move will help Kato Works meet its corporate responsibility towards the environment by significantly lowering greenhouse gas emissions associated with manufacturing activities.

With the introduction of this solar panel system, the expected annual electricity production is approximately 1.66 million kWh during operational days, translating to an estimated 60% of the factory’s energy needs. When considering power generation on non-operational days, the total annual output is projected to be around 2.76 million kWh. This initiative is anticipated to lead to a CO₂ reduction of approximately 1,148 tons annually, based on the average emissions coefficient determined by the government. Furthermore, the reduced energy costs will contribute to stabilizing operational expenses.

Future Plans


Looking ahead, Kato Works has set an ambitious target within its mid-term management plan: achieving a 38% reduction in CO₂ emissions by the fiscal year 2030, compared to the baseline year of 2018. This target aligns closely with the government’s policies on climate change initiatives for the industrial sector. The launch and operation of this solar facility is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving this goal.
