Barrier-Free Vacation Accommodation Opening in Chiba for Wheelchair Users!

Introduction

In an exciting move to enhance travel experiences for wheelchair users, a new barrier-free accommodation named 'nicotto' is slated to open in December 2025 in Kujuukuri Town, Chiba. This initiative is backed by the nicotto project, led by Naruki Saito, the CEO of Daivision. Starting October 18, a crowdfunding campaign will run until December 3 to raise funds for vital amenities that will make this vision a reality.

The Nicotto Project

The concept behind nicotto was inspired by the personal experiences of Naruki Saito and his father, Giichi Saito. Having run a welfare project, Giichi was often in contact with wheelchair users and learned about the challenges they face, especially when navigating accommodation, tourist attractions, and restaurants. This awareness was compounded by his own experiences using a wheelchair due to back pain, prompting the duo to create an inclusive space for families and friends to enjoy together.

Features of Nicotto Kujuukuri

Set to open at 4653-28 Magame, Kujuukuri Town, the accommodation will feature several accessibility-focused attributes:
  • - Entrance Width: Each room’s entrance will accommodate wheelchairs with a width of 81 cm.
  • - Accessible Bathroom: The bathrooms will be designed for wheelchair access along with low-sitting washbasins.
  • - Height-Accessible Outlets and Switches: Light switches and power outlets will be situated at wheelchair-friendly heights.
  • - Transportation Support: There will be partnerships with wheelchair taxi services, enabling easy movement throughout the area.
  • - Dining and Cooking Services: The premises will provide assistance with meal preparation and food sourcing.

Creating Comfort

One of the highlights of nicotto will be its spacious living area, designed to enhance the comfort of guests with wheelchairs. There will be a fully-equipped outdoor barbecue space that promotes accessibility and social interaction. The wooden deck will feature a flat and seamless movement area that fosters a fresh and open atmosphere, leading to a private terrace under the beautiful night sky.

Community Engagement Through Crowdfunding

From October 18, supporters can join the crowdfunding campaign to help raise funds for various enhancements—like a garden area tailored for wheelchair movement. These contributions are crucial for creating not just a stay but a complete travel experience for individuals with mobility challenges. The goal is to ensure that everyone can relish the joy of exploration without hesitation.

With its promise of inclusivity, nicotto is set to pave the way for more barrier-free travel options in Japan, allowing families and friends to create cherished memories together, regardless of mobility status. As the opening date approaches, anticipation is building for this pioneering project that strives to make travel an enjoyable experience for all.

Conclusion

The nicotto project highlights a vital movement towards inclusivity in travel, ensuring that individuals with disabilities can experience relaxation and enjoyment without limitation. By harnessing community support through crowdfunding and personal dedication, the project aims to bring about a significant change in the tourism landscape of Chiba, making it a welcoming space for everyone.
