Pacific Meta Group's Komlock Lab Launches a Foundation for AI Agent Economies

Pacific Meta Group's Initiative for AI Agent Economies

Pacific Meta, a Tokyo-based company, has recently announced the initiation of a project that aims to establish an economic framework for AI agents. Under the management of CEO Shota Iwasaki, the subsidiary Komlock Lab has taken a significant first step by launching the autonomous payment infrastructure named Kova (β).

The Necessity of AI Agent Economies Now

The role of AI agents in performing tasks has been rapidly expanding, yet these agents face a fundamental constraint: they cannot make payments independently, necessitating human intervention for utilizing external services or making purchases. While international giants like Coinbase, Google, and Stripe are advancing towards standardizing payments for AI agents, Japan has lagged in developing practical applications or use cases in this area.

Komlock Lab has been proactive in experimenting with relevant technologies, laying the groundwork for a marketplace where AI agents can autonomously discover, choose, and pay for services.

Roadmap for Development

Phase 1: Establishing the Autonomous Payment Infrastructure (Current Phase)

The foundation of AI agents’ economic activities, known as Kova (β), is officially launched. This infrastructure is designed to provide an execution environment that allows AI agents to access wallets, authentication, signatures, and payments.

  • - Kova (β) Key Features:
- An environment for AI agents to access wallets, authentication, signatures, and payments.
- Compatibility with major AI agents like Claude Code, Codex, and OpenClaw via a single command.
- An open design allowing developers to freely add and share new functions as “skills.”

Phase 2: Attracting to the Ecosystem

The goal of this phase is to enable AI agents to discover and select services offered by businesses. Komlock Lab will invite service-providing companies to deploy their APIs and skills on the Kova platform.

Phase 3: Normalizing Autonomous Transactions

In this phase, the objective is to have businesses utilize the platform to discover, compare, and purchase services from other companies, thereby promoting AI-native processes within organizations. AI agents are expected to conduct procurement and business processes autonomously.

Partnerships Driving Forward

To realize a world where AI agents can engage in economic activities independently, Komlock Lab is collaborating with multiple partners:
  • - Joint Research with Coincheck: Collaborating with Coincheck, Japan’s leading cryptocurrency exchange, they are conducting collaborative research for a future where AI agents can initiate transactions. This involves examining transaction models employing AI agents and verifying compliance with existing regulations.
  • - Partnership with Tempo: Tempo, backed by Stripe and Paradigm, develops payment protocols tailored for AI agents, sharing advanced insights for creating a superior payment experience within Kova.
  • - Collaboration with Pacific Meta: As a partner in expanding the Kova ecosystem, Pacific Meta contributes its profound expertise, having supported over 260 projects across more than 41 countries within the blockchain domain.

Future Prospects

Looking ahead, Komlock Lab aims to form partnerships with service-providing entities in preparation for service attraction beyond Phase 2. The overarching goal remains to build an expansive ecosystem where AI agents become key players in economic activities.

Businesses interested in providing APIs or skills on the platform or collaborating as partners are encouraged to reach out via email at [email protected].
