Tokyo App Introduces New Ticket Exchange for Historical Sites in Hino City

Starting from June 9, 2023, residents and visitors to Tokyo will have the opportunity to exchange their Tokyo Points for entry tickets to two significant cultural sites in Hino City: the Hino City Shinsengumi Museum and the Hino-juku Honjin. This initiative is part of the Tokyo official app designed to connect residents directly with local government services, making interactions with administration more convenient. The app allows users to earn Tokyo Points through their participation in socially responsible activities, which can then be exchanged for tickets to public facilities, or even converted to points from private payment services.

Hino City is committed to leveraging this app to promote its rich historical heritage, particularly through the lens of the Shinsengumi. The Shinsengumi was a special police force that played a crucial role during Japan's Bakumatsu period, and Hino City is recognized as their birthplace.

The Hino City Shinsengumi Museum showcases the fascinating history of the Shinsengumi, including notable figures like Hijikata Toshizō and Inoue Genzaburō, who were born there. This museum is dedicated to exhibitions, research, and studies related to the Shinsengumi, the Boshin War, and the Kōshū Kaidō along Hino-juku, offering visitors a deep insight into the turbulent times of the late Edo period.

In addition, the Hino-juku Honjin, which was the former residence of Sato Hikogoro, a notable supporter of the Shinsengumi and a local village head, stands as Tokyo's only remaining Honjin structure. The building has historical significance, as it was frequented by the likes of Kondo Isami, Hijikata Toshizō, and Inoue Genzaburō.

Each year, these two facilities welcome over 25,000 visitors, and with the introduction of this app, the city hopes to attract even more individuals to explore and learn about the fascinating narratives entwined with the Shinsengumi and the region's rich history. To claim an entry ticket, adults can exchange 300 points while children, including elementary and middle school students, can use 70 points. Upon entry, visitors simply need to show their app tickets at the reception, where they will also receive a commemorative paper ticket as part of their visit, which will be required for access to the other museum.

This new development not only emphasizes the cultural importance of Hino City but also encourages local participation and tourism. The city is hopeful that by introducing this exchange system through the Tokyo official app, both local and out-of-town visitors will take the opportunity to discover Hino City's historical attractions, thereby fostering a deeper connection with Japan's rich heritage and cultural traditions.
