Discover Puerto Rico Launches The Green Path Certification Program

In honor of Earth Day, Discover Puerto Rico, the official Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) of the island, has unveiled The Green Path. This innovative microsite and educational platform aims to empower visitors with the tools necessary to become certified as "Responsible Travelers," fostering a culture of conscious exploration.

A Focus on Sustainable Travel

The initiative builds on the findings from the Sustainable Tourism Best Practices assessment conducted by Skift Advisory. Developed in collaboration with local creators, cultural leaders, and environmental advocates, The Green Path invites travelers to engage with sustainability through personalized digital experiences that resonate with their values.

The program offers a unique certification journey based on four key pillars:

• - The Foodprint: Encourages exploration of local farms, markets, and eco-gastronomic practices, showcasing the flavors and ingredients native to Puerto Rico.
• - Legacy Journey: Focuses on preserving the island’s rich heritage, exploring its architecture, culture, and storytelling.
• - Nature Paths: Highlights biodiversity and eco-adventures, inviting travelers to appreciate the natural beauty of Puerto Rico.
• - Conscious Stays: Promotes responsible lodging options that align with low-impact tourism practices.

Each pillar features immersive content that engages and inspires travelers. From first-hand accounts of local experiences to insightful articles on sustainable travel, the platform encourages deeper connections with Puerto Rico’s culture and environment. Earning the Certification

As travelers navigate through The Green Path microsite, they earn points and valuable insights with each completion. Achieving a score of 80% or above allows them to download and share a special badge that recognizes them as certified
