Enhancing Living Spaces with Innovative Materials
DAIKEN Corporation, located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has embarked on a significant joint project with Meiwa Real Estate, a company specializing in apartment sales in the metropolitan area. This initiative led to the renovation of an apartment unit in Bunkyo, Tokyo, utilizing a range of DAIKEN's functional building materials. In a market where added value is crucial, DAIKEN aims to improve the quality of living spaces by offering superior functionality and aesthetics, thereby creating comfortable environments for all.
Background
The rising prices of new homes and the increasing stock of existing housing have made purchasing and extensively renovating used properties more appealing. In the capital region particularly, the soaring prices of new condominiums, coupled with supply shortages, have prompted many companies to focus on the renovation market. As a result, differentiated and enhanced spatial designs that offer greater added value are now more important than ever. In light of this trend, DAIKEN is placing significant emphasis on the renovation sector, establishing a dedicated organization for the metropolitan renovation market in 2024. Through the effective utilization of its products, the company is already laying down a solid track record.
In parallel, Meiwa Real Estate, a leading developer in the metropolitan area, is leveraging its expertise in new condo sales to focus on renovation projects that emphasize delivering 'value beyond price.' Recognizing their shared goal of enhancing spatial value, DAIKEN and Meiwa decided to collaborate on this renovation project, which embodies the concept of “creating spaces that elevate quality of life.” By incorporating an array of DAIKEN’s functional building materials, they have successfully blended functionality with design to create a comfortable living space.
Scaling this project will allow DAIKEN to broaden the application of its functional materials in the market, continuously contributing to the creation of spaces with high added value.
Key Points of the Project and Selected Products
The recent renovation project highlights DAIKEN's mission to create spatial value based on three themes: 1) Comfort, 2) Quality, and 3) Design. Each of these elements was addressed through a careful selection of products.
1. Comfort: Proposal of Comfortable Spaces through Humidity Control, Odor Neutralization, and Sound Absorption
In the bathroom and bedroom, DAIKEN's humidity control wall material, ‘Sarariah-to Simple Clean’, was installed, which absorbs and releases moisture based on the space’s humidity level while also offering odor-neutralizing properties. Additionally, the ceiling features ‘Clear Tone 12S-II’, an acoustic ceiling material that absorbs sound, minimizes echo, and also controls humidity. By integrating these products, a harmonious and comfortable environment featuring humidity control, odor neutralization, and sound absorption was crafted.

2. Quality: Total Coordination with Warm Brown Trends
For the flooring and fixtures, the flooring material ‘Ierira Floor Select Premium Wood Pattern’ and the new fixture series ‘Ierira Select’ were selected, featuring a richness in wood texture in the newly added ‘Balm Brown’ pattern. Unifying all spaces with this warm brown trend has added a sense of tranquility and quality throughout the apartment.

3. Design: Highlighting Material Texture for Visual Appeal
The renovation also emphasized design by using materials that highlight visual textures such as wood grain and stone. In the kitchen, the ceiling features ‘Gravio Panel V’ with an appealing wooden texture and excellent fire resistance. The living room wall incorporates the deeply carved, stone-patterned non-combustible wall material ‘Gravio Edge’.

To promote renovations that utilize DAIKEN's functional building materials, a specialized catalog titled “Style Switch” was published on June 8. This catalog features the recent project as a case study, including an interview with a representative from Meiwa Real Estate.
