NovaGo Therapeutics' Milestone Funding Round



In a significant advancement for spinal cord injury research, NovaGo Therapeutics AG, a pioneering clinical-stage biotechnology company, has announced the successful completion of a Series B financing round, raising $30 million (24 million CHF). This funding initiative, led by prominent investors Neurimmune and Pureos Bioventures, aims to propel their innovative Proof-of-Concept (PoC) study for patients suffering from acute spinal cord injuries.

The financing received additional support from the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation and Wings for Life – Spinal Cord Research Foundation. These non-dilutive funding measures emphasize the urgent need for effective treatments in a field long underrepresented in regenerative medicine.

Addressing Unmet Medical Needs



Spinal cord injuries represent a significant medical challenge, with very few solutions currently available to restore lost neurological functions. With no approved regenerative therapies in sight, patients and their families are often left with limited options post-injury. NovaGo's approach focuses on targeting Nogo-A, a protein known to inhibit nerve fiber regeneration and neuroplasticity in the central nervous system. The goal is to promote meaningful recovery by disrupting these inhibitory signals.

The $30 million infusion of capital will primarily focus on advancing NovaGo's lead program into a fully randomized, double-blind PoC study involving 120 patients across clinical sites in Germany, Spain, and Switzerland. This study’s design aims to ensure robust data collection that could lay the groundwork for future treatments.

Nitsch, highlighted the novelty of their therapeutic strategy, stating, "Together with NovaGo Therapeutics, we are unlocking a new paradigm in treating spinal cord injuries using a fully human therapeutic antibody that aims to promote nerve growth post-injury."

The enthusiasm for this funding round is bolstered by encouraging early results from Phase 1 studies involving NovaGo’s lead compound, NG004. These findings have generated significant excitement among investors and stakeholders, increasingly viewing NovaGo as a frontrunner in Nogo-A-related therapies.
