The Flavors of the World: Celebrating Culinary Creativity with Calrose Rice
The USA Rice Federation, representing the California-born Calrose rice, hosted its second Menu Idea Contest from April to July 2025. This year's theme,
“The Flavors of the World x Expanding Culinary Creativity with Rice,” encouraged participants to showcase their innovative cooking abilities while highlighting the versatility of Calrose rice.
The contest received an impressive number of submissions, with
111 entries in the Professional category and
370 submissions from students, demonstrating significant enthusiasm for exploring new culinary horizons with rice. After an initial screening process,
10 finalists were chosen from the professional segment for a final showdown where their dishes were meticulously recreated and judged by a panel of experts, in collaboration with the Hattori Nutrition College.
The Grand Prize was awarded to
