On January 28, 2025, the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc. revealed the esteemed recipients of the 2025 Horatio Alger Award. This prestigious accolade honors individuals who have not only faced significant challenges but have emerged victorious in their personal and professional journeys. This year marks the 78th edition of the award, showcasing twelve remarkable leaders from various fields, all of whom exemplify resilience and a deep commitment to philanthropy.

The award recipients include:
1. Adrienne Arsht - Executive Vice Chair of the Atlantic Council and Chairman Emerita of TotalBank.
2. Thomas J. Baltimore, Jr. - Chairman and CEO of Park Hotels & Resorts.
3. William Baine Berry - Former CEO of Continental Resources, Inc. and former Executive VP of ConocoPhillips.
4. Fernando R. De Leon - Founder and CEO of Leon Capital Group.
5. Tony DiBenedetto - CEO of Appspace and founder of Think Big for Kids.
6. Howard S. Dvorkin - Chairman of Debt.com and founder of several philanthropic initiatives including Consolidated Credit.
7. Lee Greenwood - A renowned American musician and songwriter.
8. E.G. "Ken" Kendrick, Jr. - Managing General Partner of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
9. Christopher Merrill - Co-founder and CEO of Harrison Street.
10. William P. Mills, III - President and Owner of MPW Enterprises LLC.
11. Jon W. Pritchett - President and CEO of Nextran Truck Centers.
12. Victor Paul Winkler - President and CEO of Metro Metals Northwest, Inc.

Barbara Barrett, Chairman of the Horatio Alger Association, highlighted that these remarkable individuals not only exemplify the values of perseverance and integrity but also serve as inspirations for future generations. She remarked, “These 12 individuals personify the American Dream and demonstrate that it remains within reach for all who are determined to pursue it.”

The Horatio Alger Association aims to guide young individuals towards their own paths of success by illustrating the opportunities available through America’s free-enterprise system. Since its inception, the Association has awarded scholarships based on need to high schoolers who have shown exceptional resolve in overcoming obstacles. Over 40 years, more than $265 million has been awarded to around 37,000 deserving students, significantly aiding their educational pursuits.

The induction of the new members will take place at a formal ceremony held in Washington, D.C., from April 3-5, 2025, during the Association's 78th annual award event. This three-day celebration not only commemorates the achievements of the award recipients but also provides a platform for Scholars to connect with these role models.

The Horatio Alger Association, founded in 1947, was established with the belief that sheer dedication and hard work can help overcome any adversity. With the support of its Members, the organization has a budget of more than $17.4 million earmarked for scholarships this year alone, aiming to continue its legacy of empowering youth.
