Meet Our Special Guest — Yukiryu Arakawa
Yukiryu Arakawa is not your typical monk; he has a background as a dental technician.
Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1985, he holds a dental technician license (one of only about 40 in Japan specializing in orthodontics) and founded a business in 2013 that integrated 3D printing technology into dentistry. Despite achieving success—with numerous awards including the
MIT Venture Forum Japan Special Award—he faced personal turmoil that led him to close his business in 2022. During his search for mental peace, he discovered that the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha and Kukai were sources of profound wisdom that resonated with his experiences.
After encountering the teachings during the Shikoku Pilgrimage, he moved to the historic
Manoji Temple in
Minamiboso and thereafter dedicated himself to training, officially becoming a monk in July 2024.
