Okayama University Showcases Innovations at J-PEAKS Symposium 2025
On August 4, 2025, Okayama University participated in the J-PEAKS Symposium 2025, organized by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), held at the Japan Industrial Club in Chiyoda, Tokyo. This event highlighted the university's ongoing research initiatives and collaborative efforts with industry and government.
The symposium aimed to present the J-PEAKS program, a special initiative by the JSPS that supports research universities known for their regional significance and unique characteristics. Okayama University was awarded this status in the 2023 academic year and has since made remarkable strides.
At the event, the university showcased a variety of impactful programs through poster displays, particularly its initiatives aimed at creating new industries and value from regional sources. Among the key highlights was the Okayama Digital Innovation Creation Platform (OI-Start), which fosters collaboration between academia, government, and industry to stimulate economic growth and innovation.
Furthermore, Okayama University emphasized its efforts in developing innovative medical devices and next-generation pharmaceuticals, working closely with the national strategic zones to ease regulations and drive social change. The university's focus on strengthening research capabilities was evident through initiatives such as the Collaborative Facility Portal for shared research equipment (CFPOU) and the formation of a cryo-electron microscopy network.
Representing the university were distinguished members including Nobutomo Nasu, Vice President and Liaison for J-PEAKS, Akira Imai, Head of the Industry-Academic Collaboration Headquarters, and several other key personnel. They engaged actively with attendees to exchange insights and discuss potential collaborations to tackle regional challenges through joint research and innovative partnerships.
Nobutomo Nasu commented on the importance of the symposium, noting that it brought together all 25 universities selected in the current academic year. He remarked on the significant transformations Okayama University has undergone within just three years of being part of the J-PEAKS program, underscoring the initiative's impact on the academic landscape.
