Only 9% of respondents feel that the time spent online is wasted, and 15% report feeling guilty about the duration of their internet usage. This lack of concern extends to personal information. Although 15% stated they were worried about their private data being circulated without their consent, a higher percentage had previously shared sensitive details online, including bank information (21%) and personal information like birthdays (52%).

A Reluctance to Change

Interestingly, when asked about potential sacrifices for the sake of privacy, 41% said they do not wish to give up anything from their lives, the highest percentage among 21 surveyed countries. This suggests a significant reluctance among the Japanese to alter their online habits for better privacy protection. Most notable is the contrast with other countries, where respondents were more willing to make lifestyle adjustments to safeguard their data.
