Bulat Utemuratov Foundation's Autism Program Wins AmCham's Healthcare Award
Bulat Utemuratov Foundation's Celebrated Autism Initiative
The recent recognition of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation's autism program, titled 'Autism: A World for Everyone,' marks a significant milestone in advancing autism care in Kazakhstan. This flagship initiative was awarded the prestigious Healthcare Award during the annual American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) awards ceremony, held on November 21 in the capital, Astana. The accomplishment reflects the transformative impact the program has had in fostering support and inclusivity for individuals with autism throughout the country.
Established in 2015, this program operates 13 autism centers known as Asyl Miras across 12 cities in Kazakhstan. These centers provide free services founded on globally recognized and evidence-based methodologies, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), JASPER, and early intervention models. Trained professionals, including psychologists, speech therapists, and behavior analysts, work collaboratively to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) achieve their full potential. Over the past decade, the program has positively impacted more than 17,000 children and their families, training over 300 specialists in the process.
The role of the program extends beyond delivering direct assistance. It also plays a crucial part in societal awareness and cultivating a culture of inclusion in Kazakhstan. Noteworthy initiatives, such as the Autism Friendly project, have sought to educate staff at airports in Almaty and Kyzylorda, as well as employees of Air Astana, ensuring that environments are more accessible and accommodating for those with autism.
Almaz Sharman, Chair of the Board of the Foundation, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, "This award highlights the growing significance of inclusion in our society. Our aim with the 'Autism: A World for Everyone' program was to empower children with ASD by helping them thrive in a world that embraces and supports them. Today, we witness real changes; thousands of families have found support, and society is becoming more open and understanding. This drives us to keep pushing forward."
This accolade from AmCham was not a one-time achievement for the foundation; it follows the previous year’s win in the Community Service category for its extensive social contributions to Kazakhstan. The organization is dedicated to promoting a competitive and transparent business environment in Kazakhstan, showcasing the vital intersection of healthcare and inclusive practices.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan represents leading national and international businesses in key economic sectors, advocating for a favorable investment climate through dialogue and collaboration with the Kazakh government.
In conclusion, the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation continues to lead the way in autism care within the region, driving significant awareness and change. As it forges ahead with its mission, the foundation not only enhances the lives of children with autism but also fosters a society that values inclusivity and understanding across all spectrums of life.
