Moldova Digital Summit 2026: A Celebration of National Digital Achievements

The recent Moldova Digital Summit 2026, held in Chișinău, attracted an impressive attendance of around 4,000 participants, along with over 100 speakers and 45 exhibitors, showcasing Moldova’s rapid advancement in the digital realm. This two-day event was structured around more than 70 sessions that focused on technology, investment opportunities, and Moldova's alignment with the European digital economy.

EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, praised Moldova during her keynote address, labeling it as a remarkable success story in the digital services sector. According to her, Moldovan talent is now competing effectively at the European level, contributing significantly to local wealth generation. She emphasized that digital services present an outstanding landscape for young professionals to build successful careers while remaining in their homeland.

The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in Moldova has become a cornerstone of its economic success, comprising nearly 3,000 companies and employing over 26,000 professionals. This thriving sector generates a substantial portion of its revenue from international clients, contributing approximately 7% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In 2025, companies from the Moldova Innovation Technology Park (MITP) reported an impressive aggregate revenue exceeding $1 billion.

Marta Kos highlighted Moldova's advantages, such as competitive talent, robust digital infrastructure, and growing alignment with EU regulations, which strategically position the country as a potential innovation hub for a larger European Union.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu echoed this sentiment, remarking that digitalization is not merely a tool for competitiveness, transparency, and resilience; rather, it represents Moldova's commitment to contributing meaningfully to Europe's digital future. He stressed the uniqueness of each individual’s talent and the importance of nurturing and developing these skills to foster national success.

Moldova is already recognized as a regional leader in digital public services, buoyed by a mature interoperability infrastructure. Currently, 78% of public services are accessible online, significantly reducing administrative burdens for business owners while ensuring faster and more dependable interactions with government institutions. Remarkably, in 2025, these digital public services saved citizens and businesses around EUR 44 million and more than 9.3 million hours, with the digital infrastructure managing approximately 3.2 million data exchanges daily.

Among the many notable announcements at the summit was the launch of EVO 2.0, the next iteration of Moldova’s integrated government application. This advanced digital identity wallet complies fully with the European Digital Identity framework, enabling citizens to securely access and share verified documents and personal data effortlessly from their smartphones.

The summit also marked a pivotal transition for Moldova from a position of digital strength to a focus on physical innovation capabilities. This was exemplified by the announcement of the first memorandums and expressions of interest for Moldova HiTech Park, which is envisioned as a 50-hectare innovation campus near Chișinău. This initiative is projected to attract more than €200 million in investments, facilitating a government data center, a nanotechnology cluster, and a HealthTech innovation hub.

Organized under the patronage of the Government, with support from various agencies including the Moldovan Association of ICT Companies and the Electronic Governance Agency, the Moldova Digital Summit 2026 has taken a commendable step towards reinforcing the country's position in the global digital landscape. As the nation embraces its digital journey, it reinforces the commitment to technological advancement, economic growth, and a bright future within the European Union’s digital framework.

In conclusion, the Moldova Digital Summit 2026 not only celebrated the nation’s achievements in digital services but also outlined a visionary path for future innovation, invoking collaboration across sectors and the potential for competitive progress on a European scale.
