AMIGO LNG Partners with Drydocks World for Largest Floating LNG Facility Construction

AMIGO LNG Awards Epic EPC Contract to Drydocks World

In a significant move for the LNG industry, AMIGO LNG SA de CV, a Mexican joint venture formed by Texas-based Epcilon LNG LLC and Singapore's LNG Alliance Pte Ltd, has awarded an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract to Dubai's Drydocks World. This contract is aimed at fabricating and delivering what will be the world’s largest floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility, alongside corresponding Floating Storage Units (FSU) infrastructure.

Major Developments in LNG

Drydocks World, renowned for its state-of-the-art maritime facilities, will be responsible for converting existing Floating Storage Units into functional units that will support LNG export operations. The contract also includes the construction of new FLNG barges that will utilize cutting-edge pre-treatment and liquefaction technologies developed in the United States. This project stands to advance the global LNG market substantially, as the new FLNG facility will have a remarkable production capacity exceeding 4.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

The new facility will be built at Drydocks World's advanced yard in Dubai, which is well-equipped for managing mega-scale offshore and LNG infrastructure projects. The innovative approach of an FLNG solution allows the simultaneous fabrication offshore while preparation continues onshore. This dual approach not only quickens the time to market but also diminishes the environmental footprint compared to traditional onshore plants, thus enhancing overall project value and efficiency.

Perspectives on the Contract

Dr. Muthu Chezhian, CEO of LNG Alliance, highlighted the significance of this EPC contract, stating, "This award represents a pivotal milestone for AMIGO LNG. By collaborating with Drydocks World on the world’s largest FLNG facility, we are securing a top-tier product that boasts exceptional production capacity and reliable, long-term operational performance. We are also taking advantage of the multiple benefits inherent in FLNG solutions, including expedited schedules and rigorous testing procedures in a controlled environment."

Capt. Rado Antolovic, CEO of Drydocks World, expressed confidence in the venture, saying, "With our established track record of executing complex offshore conversions and large-scale fabrication, Drydocks World is prepared to deliver this groundbreaking facility in line with the highest international standards. Through our shipyard’s expertise and global partnerships, we are not only setting new benchmarks in floating LNG technology but also reinforcing Dubai's status as a hub for maritime and offshore energy innovation."

Strategic Positioning of AMIGO LNG Terminal

The integration of new FLNG technology along with the conversion of existing FSUs, sourced from the productive US Permian Basin, positions the AMIGO LNG terminal in Guaymas as one of the most innovative and strategically located LNG export facilities in the world. This facility aims to competitively supply LNG to burgeoning markets in Asia and Latin America.
