Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan's Artistic Vending Machines
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan Inc., based in Minato, Tokyo, has recently joined forces with Nakano City to unveil an exciting initiative called the "Mural Art Vending Machine Project." This innovative project features original vending machines adorned with unique designs created by acclaimed artist Shoko Nakagawa, under the auspices of a partnership aimed at promoting cultural and artistic opportunities for children and youth.
On March 25, 2026, a special unveiling event was held at the Nakano City Hall, where representatives from both Coca-Cola and Nakano City showcased the distinctive vending machines. Notable attendees included Ayano Watanabe, Vice Manager of the Coca-Cola Vending Port Branch, as well as Kenichi Kubo, Senior Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Vending Division, alongside Shoko Nakagawa and Nakano City Mayor Naoto Sakai.
The "Mural Art Vending Machine Project" is rooted in an agreement initiated in October 2024, focused on fostering artistic appreciation among youth and providing varied cultural experiences. The project aims to ignite the creativity and passion of the younger generation.
The original design by Shoko Nakagawa, a local who holds a deep affection for Nakano, consists of two distinct themes that embody the message of encouraging the youth of Nakano to embrace their dreams. This artistic expression is not only visually appealing but also reinforces the message of positivity and aspiration.
Set to be launched within Nakano facilities starting in April 2026, these uniquely designed vending machines will not only serve refreshing beverages but also contribute to the local community. A portion of the sales will be donated to the "Nakano City Children and Youth Cultural Arts Promotion Fund," ensuring that the project directly benefits local artistic initiatives and youth engagement.
Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan's corporate philosophy, "Paint it RED! Change the Future," emphasizes the company’s commitment to enhancing happiness and creating value through its operations. This project perfectly aligns with their mission of addressing social issues and fostering collaborative value creation through community partnerships.
Shoko Nakagawa expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "I am thrilled to collaborate with Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan for the Mural Art Vending Machine Project and bring art to these machines! During my pregnancy with twins, I poured my heart into crafting designs that reflect my love for Nakano and the smiles of young people. I hope this initiative spreads joy among the residents of Nakano, creating beautiful memories and leading towards a bright future."
