Coherix's Major Expansion Plan
Coherix, a pioneering name in the adhesive dispensing industry, has announced a significant expansion of its production and product development facilities. This move comes as a response to the rapidly increasing demand for AI-driven quality-control systems essential for applying adhesives in automotive and electronics assembly. The company’s new facility, featuring 25,000 square feet, will be located at 1168 Oak Valley Drive in Ann Arbor, Michigan, significantly enhancing its operational capabilities.
Details of the Expansion
The expansion, estimated to cost nearly one million dollars, will add 5,000 square feet to the existing production space and create an additional 5,000 square feet designated for engineering, software development, training, and customer service. This strategic addition is anticipated to almost double the available workspace and is expected to generate 10 to 15 new engineering and product development jobs within the next year.
Craig Manning, Vice President of Operations, emphasized, "This is a game-changing move for Coherix. It enables us to keep up with our customers' growing demands for our leading-edge products, accelerate the development of innovative dispensing technologies, and attract talented engineers to our team."
The company plans to introduce an Innovation Center within the new facility, featuring 10 robotic stations integrated with various dispensing technologies, along with facilities for technical training and product demonstrations tailored for customers.
Leading the Way in Precision Adhesive Dispensing
Coherix has established itself as a frontrunner in adaptive process-control technology, especially for the automated dispensing of adhesives in high-speed assembly lines. Their cutting-edge 3D laser-based quality-control systems integrate machine learning and artificial intelligence to achieve significant efficiency improvements, yielding up to 25% savings in labor and material costs for manufacturing partners.
The rise in the utilization of adhesives for manufacturing has fueled Coherix's expansion strategy. CEO Dwight Carlson highlighted the burgeoning market for adhesive applications in sectors like automotive and electronics, noting that over 30,000 jobs are linked to sealant and adhesive manufacturing in North America, with industry market size exceeding $22 billion.
In addition, Carlson pointed to the escalating requirement for mechanical engineers and ongoing training initiatives for existing personnel involved in adhesive application. To address this, Coherix is collaborating with Eastern Michigan University and other trade organizations to develop the industry’s future workforce.
Bridging the Gap with Training and Workshops
Recognizing the complexity of developing and maintaining efficient dispensing systems, Coherix has initiated a workshop program aimed at optimizing adhesive application processes in manufacturing. Co-sponsored by the Engineering and Manufacturing Alliance (EMA), the program expects participation from over 100 system integrators, robot manufacturers, and material suppliers to engage in discussions surrounding adhesive dispensing challenges.
Furthermore, Coherix is working closely with Eastern Michigan University to advance a 'factory-of-the-future' program focused on precision manufacturing within the adhesive technology landscape, supported by a generous $385,000 grant from Coherix.
This initiative will ensure that the upcoming generation of mechanical engineers is adequately equipped with the technical know-how and practical skills necessary for the evolving manufacturing landscape.
Commitment to Customer Support
Earlier this year, Coherix also launched an industry-leading service program designed to assist customers in maintaining robotic adhesive dispensing systems. This comprehensive support program includes training, technical advice, and on-site assistance to ensure the longevity and effectiveness of their systems.
Jared Rogers, the Application Engineering Manager at Coherix, articulated that while high-speed dispensing technology is crucial, the maintenance of these systems can be intricate due to the array of involved system integrators and equipment suppliers. Hence, the Coherix CARES initiative aims to provide a robust framework for customer support in this realm.
