First-Year Students from Rakusei High School Visit TMI Attorneys for Career Insights

Rakusei High School Students Explore Legal Careers at TMI Law Firm

On August 21, 2025, thirteen first-year students from Rakusei High School, located in the Kita district of Kyoto City, embarked on an insightful visit to TMI General Counsel, situated in Minato, Tokyo. This visit was part of their Tokyo training program, which aims to introduce students to various career paths through direct interactions with successful alumni in diverse fields.

For the past three years, Rakusei High School has been organizing this enriching program, which includes visits to prestigious locations such as the University of Tokyo, the National Diet, and various government agencies in Kasumigaseki. The primary objective of this initiative is to broaden the students' understanding of society, assisting them in discovering their own futures while considering significant choices such as choosing between humanities and sciences.

This year, continuing the tradition, two alumni from Rakusei High School, who are now practicing lawyers at TMI, were invited to share their experiences with the students. Lawyers Koichiro Hanamoto and Yu Tomita presented a clear and engaging overview of TMI Law Firm and the intricate world of corporate law, making their presentations accessible for high school audiences.

During the session, they elaborated on the legal profession and its allure, using real-world examples such as the recent surge in rice prices to explain complex concepts like price cartels and the related legal practices. Furthermore, when asked about what they value most in their role as lawyers, they emphasized the importance of sincere communication with clients and adhering to principles of law and conscience. This encapsulates the client-first philosophy that TMI prioritizes in its operations.

The visit also included an exciting tour of the firm's facilities. Students had the opportunity to experience a mock courtroom session, where they read an oath, offering them a firsthand glimpse into the practical aspects of legal proceedings.

TMI General Counsel is firmly committed to nurturing the next generation of talent through educational activities like this one, contributing positively to societal development. The firm boasts an impressive team of 679 attorneys and 101 patent attorneys, as of August 1, 2025. Its extensive experience spans both domestic and international fields, making it one of Japan's largest law firms with over 1,300 staff members.

With a presence across seven locations in Japan and 19 overseas offices, TMI operates as a global firm providing tailored legal services to corporations, organizations, and communities. Notably, despite being a law firm, TMI has ventured into establishing its own startups and signing agreements for digital transformation with local governments, continuously challenging traditional norms since its inception in 1990.

As they strive to redefine the roles of law firms and lawyers, TMI aims to swiftly respond to a wide array of client needs with innovative legal solutions.
