Okayama University Hosts Innovative AI-HPC Partners Meeting Promoting Collaboration in Research

Okayama University Hosts the Second AI-HPC Partners Meeting

On January 19, 2026, Okayama University held its second AI-HPC Partners meeting at the Tsushima Campus in a hybrid format. The event gathered approximately 30 participants, including researchers, technical staff, and coordinators, all interested in artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). This initiative aims to promote collaboration among experts and foster the formation of new research hubs.

The AI-HPC Partners program was established to facilitate knowledge sharing and create opportunities for joint research. The meeting commenced with opening remarks from Associate Professor Atsushi Sekimoto of the Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology, who outlined the efforts being made toward establishing AI-HPC computational infrastructure and research bases. He shared insights into utilizing European supercomputer infrastructure (PRACE) as well as Japan’s supercomputing infrastructure (HPCI).

The first keynote was delivered by Hitoshi Ito, CTO of Morgenrot Corporation. His talk focused on “Visualizing, Sharing, and Trading Computational Resources for AI and HPC: A New Frontier in Distributed Computing.” Following this, Takao Shimakoshi, the head of the Cyber-Physical Application Research Section (Cypher) at Okayama University’s AI and Mathematical Data Science Center, presented on “An Overview of Academic Computational Resources.”

Post the keynote presentations, an “AI-HPC Computational Resource Consultation Meeting” was organized for participants to engage in discussions regarding supercomputer and AI resource utilization. This collaboration seeks to advance joint research initiatives and enhance understanding among participants.

Plans for the third meeting include a joint event with Cypher, featuring invited speakers and a poster session, aimed at further promoting networking among interested parties. Additionally, there will be various technical exchange sessions to support skill development, including beginner workshops, GPGPU hands-on sessions, and GPU mini-camps.

Okayama University invites researchers and technical staff eager to engage in AI and data-driven computing to join the AI-HPC Partners program. The university continues to uphold its commitment as a core regional research institution, showcasing distinctive efforts towards supporting innovative academic research.
