The CHOOCH Foundation and IBEW Local 58 Collaborate to Promote Mental Health Awareness

In an effort to address mental health stigma and foster community support, the CHOOCH Foundation, in collaboration with IBEW Local 58, is hosting the 'A Mind in Motion: Mental Health Maintenance Fair'. This vibrant event will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10 AM to 4 PM at the IBEW Local 58 Union Hall, located at 1358 Abbott St, Detroit, MI 48226. It aims to unite families and residents of the Detroit area in an atmosphere of growth, understanding, and compassion.

Building a Resilient Community

Mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of age, profession, or background. Recent studies suggest that one in four individuals will experience some form of mental health challenge throughout their lives, underscoring the importance of community awareness and support. Craig Shilling, co-founder of the CHOOCH Foundation, emphasizes the necessity of creating a non-judgmental space: "This fair is about meeting people where they are, with no judgment and no red tape. It is essential to create space to support mental well-being at home and within our families."

What to Expect at the Fair

The 'A Mind in Motion' fair will offer a diverse array of resources and activities aimed at promoting mental wellness. Attendees can expect to find:
  • - On-site licensed therapists for confidential discussions regarding mental health and wellness.
  • - Guided meditation, breathwork, and mindfulness sessions to equip participants with tools for stress management.
  • - Live aerial yoga demonstration by The Detroit Fly House, showcasing the therapeutic benefits of movement.
  • - Creative arts therapy sessions, which will include dance, music, and visual arts, allowing participants to explore self-expression.
  • - Sound healing opportunities and movement-based stress reduction techniques, aimed at enhancing relaxation.
  • - Therapy dogs and emotional support activities, providing comfort and companionship.
