OCVIBE Introduces Innovative Parks and Plazas for Anaheim's Future

OCVIBE has officially unveiled its designs for a new network of parks and plazas that promises to transform Anaheim and enhance community engagement. Spanning 100 acres, this mixed-use development surrounds the iconic Honda Center and aims to create a vibrant outdoor environment that promotes well-being and inclusivity. With an emphasis on health and community connectivity, OCVIBE’s landscape features 20 acres of open spaces, comprised of three miles of accessible walking trails, an outdoor public art gallery, and a diverse array of parks and plazas designed to support local programming and activities.

The initiative to repurpose 62 acres of old parking lots into lush green landscapes marks a significant step towards creating a healthier urban environment in Southern California. The open spaces are strategically designed to facilitate physical activity, mental wellness, and strong social connections among residents and visitors alike. As people traverse the interconnected paths for walking, jogging, and cycling, they will encounter inviting landscaped corridors that link residential areas, dining options, and entertainment venues, fostering a sense of belonging.

"Great parks and plazas build strong communities, and our vision for OCVIBE’s green spaces reflects a long-term commitment to nurturing Anaheim’s health and vitality," stated Brian Myers, a Senior Director on the Development Team at OCVIBE. The spaces are not merely recreational; they are intended to be lasting locations that cultivate relationships and support community initiatives as they evolve to meet the neighborhood's changing needs.

Fletcher Studio, the landscape architects behind the project, have crafted the parks with careful attention to health principles that inform land use, amenities, circulation, and environmental systems. Features such as movement zones, social interaction areas, and psychological comfort dimensions are integrated into the public spaces to ensure wellness is a defining aspect of the OCVIBE experience. David Fletcher, the studio's landscape architect, emphasized that every corner of the site will house a park within a five-minute walk from any location. This intentional design creates environments that seamlessly blend art, nature, and recreational programming to enhance daily life for all.

Visitors can look forward to a variety of unique parks, each with its own character inspired by the local ecology, history, and natural landscapes. Meadow Park will evoke the classic flow of the Santa Ana River, featuring native plantings and naturalistic design, while the Neighborhood Park aims to be a sanctuary for families, providing lush meadows and art-filled spaces inspired by cosmic themes.

Additionally, South Plaza will emerge as the vibrant centerpiece for community gatherings and events, while Urban Park will celebrate Orange County’s agricultural heritage by merging natural water features with recreational spaces. "The Urban Park will create a focal point for both locals and visitors, combining enhanced access to Honda Center, a dynamic concert venue, and a bustling market hall enriched with shops and eateries, thereby encouraging community interaction," remarked Matthew MacLeod from Burton Studio.

A standout feature of OCVIBE's open space initiative will be its outdoor public art exhibition, showcasing creations from local and national artists throughout the year. By transforming walkways and plazas into living galleries, residents will enjoy interactive and seasonal exhibits that provide engaging artistic experiences. The programming will also encompass community markets, fitness sessions, workshops, live shows, and family-oriented events, all designed to foster inclusivity and alignment with community needs.

The first installment of public plaza initiatives is set to launch in early 2027, coinciding with the introduction of Katella Commons - a unique market hall, and a concert venue capable of accommodating large audiences. With an investment of $5 billion spearheaded by the Samueli Family, OCVIBE is poised to set a new standard for urban community developments, blending art, culture, and wellness in a cohesive coexistence. When fully realized by 2033, this groundbreaking project is set to incorporate over 20 acres of open spaces, three miles of walking trails, more than 2,500 residential units, and diverse dining experiences, solidifying OCVIBE as a premier destination in Southern California.

In every aspect, OCVIBE aims to create an immersive and supportive environment that reflects the aspirations and needs of Anaheim’s residents, ensuring a legacy of health, connection, and creativity for generations to come.
