San Juan Regional Medical Center Enhances Patient Flow with Oracle Health Solutions

In a strategic move to bolster its healthcare delivery, San Juan Regional Medical Center has adopted innovative solutions from Oracle Health. This collaboration aims to streamline patient flow, enhance operational visibility, and improve bed management efficiency. The new systems enable staff to gain real-time insights into capacity, patient movement, and environmental services workflows.

Located in the Four Corners region of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah, San Juan Regional Medical Center is an independent, nonprofit organization geared towards delivering quality healthcare to its community. The center has long sought solutions to fragmented operations that hinder effective patient care. By integrating several Oracle Health solutions, including the Health Command Center Dashboard, Patient Flow, and Transfer Center, the medical center is poised to enhance its operational capabilities significantly.

The Implementation Process

The implementation of these Oracle Health solutions was facilitated with the expertise of Optum, who provided valuable support and knowledge in healthcare transformation. This partnership aims to align workflows across clinical operations, bed management, and environmental services, thereby improving the visibility needed for better decision-making in patient care.

John Gaede, the Chief Information Officer at San Juan Regional Medical Center, emphasized the significance of this collaboration: “Our long-standing relationship with Oracle Health established a solid foundation for enhancing patient flow and operational coordination.” Dr. Carlo Hallak, physician informatics executive at the center, echoed similar sentiments, noting that the new tools provide their teams with a more cohesive view of operations, thereby facilitating better patient coordination and quicker turnaround of beds for incoming patients.

Early Results and Transformations

One month post-implementation, San Juan Regional Medical Center has already witnessed promising operational improvements. For example, bed-assignment times have dropped by 38.9%, decreasing from an average of 54 minutes to just 33 minutes. Similarly, environmental services have seen outstanding progress, with response times decreasing by 48.5%, from nearly 50 minutes to approximately 26 minutes—both results surpassing the organization’s benchmarks. Additionally, the time taken to complete environmental cleanings has improved by 1.2% and is trending positively.

Focus on Care Efficiency

According to Seema Verma, executive vice president at Oracle Health, the need for healthcare systems to maintain a real-time operational overview is crucial. This visibility allows them to utilize resources optimally and provide timely care, leading to better patient experiences. By connecting Oracle’s clinical operation solutions with the existing systems at San Juan Regional Medical Center, the staff can now enjoy improved patient flow and enhanced cooperation among various care teams.

Lou DiLorenzo, CEO of Optum Advisory, stressed that successful technology transformations are realized when paired with operational expertise. The collaborative efforts between San Juan Regional Medical Center, Oracle Health, and Optum are setting the groundwork for lasting improvements in operational performance, capacity management, and patient flow.

Upcoming Events

Healthcare professionals and interested parties can learn more about Oracle’s comprehensive suite of clinical and business applications at the Oracle Health and Life Sciences Summit in Orlando from September 22 to 24, 2026.

In conclusion, the synergy between San Juan Regional Medical Center and Oracle Health highlights a significant advancement in healthcare technology and patient management, promising a brighter and more efficient future for healthcare services in the Four Corners region.
