Amazon Prime’s Obsessed Fest Successfully Streams Live on TikTok with Advanced LiveU Technology

A New Era in Live Streaming: Obsessed Fest on TikTok

In an exciting development for digital entertainment, Broadcast Management Group (BMG) successfully executed Amazon Prime's inaugural Obsessed Fest, a live streamed event on TikTok, leveraging the robust LiveU EcoSystem. Holding the festival at the expansive Nya Studios in Hollywood, California, BMG adopted an innovative approach by integrating advanced technology and creative production techniques to deliver an immersive 8-hour experience tailored specifically for the social platform.

The Production Challenge

Executed completely within a tight three-week timeline, Obsessed Fest was a mix of creativity and technological precision. BMG acted as the lead producer, coordinating multiple live feeds and camera setups designed for seamless integration into TikTok's format. The production featured 16 live records and 12 distinct camera feeds, ensuring a dynamic, engaging viewer experience. Notably, the broadcast included two handheld units, a Steadicam, and both robotic and crewed cameras, showcasing a diverse array of angles and visuals, all under the watchful operations of a central Network Operations Center (NOC) situated in Washington, D.C.

LiveU’s Role in Successful Streaming

One of the key highlights of this event was the utilization of LiveU IQ™ (LIQ) technology, designed to handle the demanding conditions typical of live environments. Given the high audience turnout at Nya Studios, which hosts approximately 1,000 attendees, the cellular networks experienced significant congestion. To tackle this challenge, the BMG team deployed LIQ to dynamically manage bandwidth across various camera units. This technology continuously monitored network conditions, ensuring that every SIM card identified the strongest connection at all times, resulting in high-quality, uninterrupted streaming throughout the marathon broadcast.

Real-Time Editing with LiveU Ingest

On the editing side, LiveU Ingest proved to be an invaluable asset for the editorial team. This cloud-native solution allowed for 16 simultaneous recordings, enabling a 20-person editorial team to access footage in real-time while it was being captured. The flexibility of LiveU Ingest ensured that editors could create and publish TikTok-friendly clips from wherever they were, maintaining constant updates on the evolving event.

Key decision-makers at BMG, including CEO Todd Mason, expressed confidence in LiveU's abilities, emphasizing their shared dedication to enhancing remote workflows and production capabilities for the future. He noted, "In tier-one productions, you only get one bite at the apple, and LiveU's technology provides the reliability we need to concentrate entirely on crafting the show."

Impressive Viewer Engagement

The event dramatically outperformed expectations, achieving nearly 850,000 concurrent viewers on TikTok, which far exceeded the live audience on site. This overwhelming digital reach provided vital insights for both Amazon Prime and BMG, indicating the potential for future festivals and expanding the franchise's reach effectively.

Featuring a red carpet with interviews from over 30 cast members and captivating performances—including a surprise set from pop icon Jennifer Lopez—this first installment for Obsessed Fest set new standards for what social-native productions can achieve in the live events space.

The Future of Social-First Events

This successful endeavor marks a pivotal moment for social-first event productions. According to Sean Wyburn, CTO of BMG, the specialized approach to creating an event for TikTok doesn't mean downsizing the production; it necessitates smarter, more efficient planning. The team's success is a testament to the blending of digital-first creativity with broadcast-grade technology, paving the way for the next generation of live productions.

As Janel Moorefield, Senior VP of Sales for LiveU, highlighted, productions like Obsessed Fest are setting the foundation for future industry standards—ones that cater specifically to the demands of a social media-centric audience while maintaining quality. This new production category promises to revolutionize how we view live events, integrating cloud-based workflows and broadcast standards seamlessly.

With ongoing developments and technological advancements, the coordination between BMG and LiveU exemplifies a collaborative, forward-thinking approach, ensuring that the future of live events is not only bright but also greatly engaged with its audiences.
