Aspen Snowmass Welcomes Visitors Despite Temporary Airport Closure in Summer 2027

Aspen Snowmass Remains Open for Business During Airport Closure

Aspen Snowmass, a premier ski destination, will continue to welcome visitors even during the temporary closure of the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) scheduled from April 4, 2027, to November 19, 2027. This closure will facilitate essential upgrades as part of the ASE Modernization Project, aimed at improving airport operations and enhancing the traveler experience.

The ASE Modernization Project

This major investment is designed not only to modernize the airport but also to support the community of Roaring Fork Valley. When completed in 2029, travelers can expect significant benefits, such as:
  • - Noise reduction and environmental progress: The new upgrades will decrease aircraft noise by at least 30% and minimize emissions, which contributes to a healthier environment.
  • - A new passenger terminal: Designed based on community input, this terminal will revolutionize the travel experience. The current establishment has not seen renovations in nearly four decades, making these updates crucial. Construction efforts for the terminal are set to commence in late 2027.
  • - Enhanced accessibility: The upgraded terminal will feature jetways for improved passenger comfort and accessibility, including special provisions for travelers requiring additional support.

The completion of the runway enhancements in summer 2027 is strategically timed to ensure that the airport can reopen just in time for the 2027-28 ski season.
