The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has officially announced the appointment of Dr. Pei-Zen Chang as its new president. This strategic move signifies ITRI's commitment to innovation and leadership in advancing Taiwan's industrial landscape.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Chang highlighted that innovation is crucial for driving the development of Taiwan's industries. He underscored the necessity for ITRI to serve as a trusted think tank for the government and a reliable technical partner for the business sector amidst the rapid global changes and technological advancements.

Dr. Chang outlined three major focal areas that ITRI will prioritize under his leadership:

1. Fostering Talent through Collaboration: Dr. Chang aims to cultivate exceptional talent through interdisciplinary cooperation across institutions. This effort will harness the combined strengths of academia, industry, and research institutions to propel advancements in cutting-edge technologies.

2. Accelerating Industrial Transformation: He emphasized the urgency of driving industrial transformation across various sectors, from high-tech to traditional industries, through innovation. This comprehensive approach is intended to enhance the overall competitiveness of the nation in the global marketplace.

3. Strengthening International Collaboration: Dr. Chang stressed the importance of bolstering international partnerships to connect Taiwan with the rest of the world. He envisions Taiwan as a crucial player in the global innovation landscape, with a strong commitment to sharing its leadership in innovation on an international scale.

Dr. Chang holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Cornell University and a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University (NTU). His extensive expertise in technology policy and research management is backed by a distinguished career, having held significant positions such as deputy secretary-general of the Executive Yuan's Science and Technology Advisory Committee, president of the Nanotechnology and Micro Systems Association, secretary-general at NTU, vice president of ITRI, and dean of the D-School at NTU.

His diverse research background encompasses fields like mechatronics systems, industrial sensing technologies, and digital technologies. He is highly regarded as a leader who bridges scientific and technological policies with industrial applications, making him the ideal choice to helm ITRI during this transformative period.

As Dr. Chang assumes his role at ITRI, stakeholders are optimistic about the future, looking forward to enhanced innovation and collaboration that can potentially position Taiwan as a global leader in technology and industry. The strategic direction under Dr. Chang's leadership is poised to take ITRI—and, by extension, Taiwan’s economy—to new heights of success.
