Exciting New Contactless Payment Service: Ride with Ease in Tokyo's Trains Starting December 2025

New Contactless Payment Service for Tokyo Metro and Keikyu Electric Railway

Starting from December 23, 2025, passengers will be able to utilize contactless payment systems like credit, debit, and prepaid cards across all stations of the Tokyo Metro and Keikyu Electric Railway. This innovative service aims to enhance the convenience for both local commuters and international travelers, especially those utilizing Haneda Airport.

The initiative, which is a collaboration between the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation and Keikyu, was first tested in December 2024 at select stations. Due to positive feedback and the rising demand for seamless cashless travel, the decision was made to expand this service to all stations. Passengers can simply tap their contactless cards or smartphones equipped with payment setups on designated readers at ticket gates to access smooth commuting.

This service is part of Keikyu's 20th Comprehensive Management Plan, which focuses on maximizing the potential of Haneda Airport as Japan's gateway to the world. The plan aims to improve user convenience and expand cashless options, catering to the growing demand from inbound travelers that prefer efficient transit methods.

Additionally, the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau is also prioritizing this initiative under its Business Plan 2025, which emphasizes providing diverse value through mobility. The aim is to promote cashless travel and ensure that the Tokyo Metro is accessible to all travelers, including those without transportation IC cards.

In a further effort to improve this service, the Tokyo Metro and Keikyu Electric Railway have entered a joint business agreement in October this year with 11 other railway operators in the Kanto region. This agreement is set to facilitate the mutual use of contactless payment ride services across different lines starting in Spring 2026. This collaborative approach aims at providing more comprehensive services, ensuring that passengers can enjoy convenient transfers between different rail operators using their contactless cards.
