Twelve Taiwanese Sustainability Innovators Showcase at Lifestyle Week Tokyo 2026

As global interest in circular economies and sustainable consumption rises, Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs is leading twelve social innovation companies to participate in the upcoming Lifestyle Week Tokyo 2026 from June 24 to 26 at Tokyo Big Sight. The event will feature the Taiwan Sustainable Selection Pavilion, aiming to promote Taiwan's innovative solutions centered around sustainable design, the use of circular materials, and resource recycling to the Japanese market.

The exhibition will highlight efforts to transform by-products and waste resources generated in daily life into new value through innovative designs and business models. This showcase embodies the technological capabilities and creativity of Taiwanese companies in the circular economy sector.

Visitors will encounter diverse products that connect resource recycling with everyday living, including biofuels and aroma products made from coffee grounds, functional fiber materials derived from eggshells, and environmentally friendly detergents utilizing shell by-products. Additionally, food and healthcare products effective in utilizing pineapple, asparagus, and seafood by-products will propose new possibilities for high-value addition from underutilized resources. These examples extend the initiatives of the circular economy beyond the production floor into consumers' daily lives.

Moreover, a range of products incorporating bamboo fiber for storage solutions, recycled materials for lifestyle goods, and community co-creation reflecting traditional crafts and inclusive employment principles will be exhibited. Through these products that harmonize environmental consideration with design and functionality, the exhibitors aim to suggest that sustainability is not just an environmental concern but a new lifestyle choice deeply rooted in everyday life.

In Japan, recent trends show a growing acceleration towards promoting circular economies and ESG-focused management, increasing interest in sustainable materials, circular design, and responsible supply chains. The products and business models developed by Taiwanese companies not only address such market needs but are also anticipated as new sustainable solutions in retail distribution, corporate procurement, and brand partnerships.

The delegation will also take the opportunity to visit Yokohama's innovation hub, Tech Hub Yokohama, where discussions with local businesses and startup support organizations will occur. This visit aims to deepen insights regarding the circular economy, sustainable urban development, and fostering new industries, while exploring possibilities for market entry, supply chain connections, and international business expansion.

Commemorating ten years since Taiwan introduced its social innovation promotion policy, over NT$ 11.9 billion (approximately US$ 600 million) has been generated through social innovation procurement. This exhibition marks a unique opportunity to communicate the competitiveness of Taiwanese social innovation companies to the Japanese and broader Asian markets, aiming for further business expansion and international collaborations.

Notable attendees at the opening ceremony include KPMG's Director General, Mr. Huang Zhengzhong, representative from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Japan, Mr. Bai Guofang, Vice President of the Tokyo Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Yoshida Shirei, and a fellow from Japan Research Institute, Mr. Adachi Eiichiro, all celebrating Taiwan’s sustainable brands' entry into the Japanese market.
