Marie's New Digital Single 'Dandan' Explores Memories and Gratitude to Hometown

Ueda Marie Releases 2nd Digital Single 'Dandan'

On August 18, 2025, Ueda Marie, a talented entertainer, singer, and member of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Committee, released her second digital single, "Dandan." This release is under Simul Records, an indie label based in Tokyo, led by Yoshio Anida. The song is currently available on a variety of platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and LINE MUSIC, reaching audiences in 185 countries across 55 platforms.

The creation of "Dandan" was sparked by an invitation for Ueda to perform at the "YOKAI MUSIC FES 2025" held in Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture, in July. Ueda penned the lyrics herself, incorporating memories and imagery from her upbringing in Tottori, which contribute to the deep affection she holds for her hometown. This emotional connection resonates throughout the song.

The music composition, arrangement, and guitar performance were entrusted to Yosuke Ishida, a singer-songwriter known for crafting various local songs and theme songs. The melody of "Dandan" is designed to evoke warm feelings, transcending generations.

The title "Dandan" carries a double meaning, relating to the adverb "little by little" and the local dialect term meaning "thank you" in the San'in region. Ueda expresses, "As time passes, memories may fade; however, my love for my hometown deepens year by year. I hope everyone who holds their hometown dear can listen to this song."

Additionally, Ueda was responsible for the design and photography of the single's jacket. The visuals capture the serene sunset at Yumi-gahama beach and the breathtaking sky over Mount Daisen, encapsulating the essence of the song.

Artist's Comment

"As I moved to the city for my university studies at the age of 18, it has now been 20 years since. The time I’ve spent away from Tottori is now longer than the time I spent there. Days pass, and while my memories may become less vivid, my love for my hometown deepens over time. I have increasingly recognized the value of having a hometown as the years go by. With this latest creation, 'Dandan,' I aim to express my gratitude towards my roots. Additionally, the dialect term 'Dandan' means 'thank you' in the Tottori and Shimane dialects, which reflects my appreciation for my hometown. This song is meant for everyone, not just the people of Tottori and the San'in region. I invite you to listen while thinking of your own hometown."
