Huawei's Groundbreaking Contributions to Energy Systems
In a powerful showcase during HUAWEI CONNECT 2026, Huawei hosted the Global Electric Power Summit focused on the theme
"AI × Energy: Unlocking a New Power System." The event has drawn the attention of over 600 representatives from energy companies, industry organizations, and media, creating a collaborative environment to explore the integration of energy transitions with cutting-edge digital technologies.
Throughout the summit, Huawei presented
six innovative demonstration projects that highlight the end-to-end digital and intelligent transformations in energy generation and consumption, encompassing both local and international markets. This shift signifies a crucial transition in the energy sector, moving away from mere supportive measures to fostering synergy through computational power.
The global energy landscape has been rapidly evolving as
distributed renewable energy solutions have become vital for reducing external dependencies while ensuring grid viability and universal access to electricity.
Philippe Adam, Secretary-General of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), noted the massive transformation driven by energy transitions and the rise of AI Data Centers (AIDCs), stating,
“The energy sector is undergoing a substantial change as a result of energy transitions, AI Data Centers, and digitalization.”
Faced with interconnected challenges like the renewable energy transition, smart transformations, and the lack of electricity access for 700 million individuals globally, AI is becoming an essential component of the traditional energy sector. Huawei strongly believes that
low-voltage management will be a key application area for AI. Addressing low-voltage management issues requires a systematic and transparent approach based on six core capabilities: observability, measurability, controllability, adaptability, tradability, and traceability—all critical for long-term sustainability.
David Sun, CEO of Huawei Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, emphasized that
“The essence of low-voltage transparency is faster data transfer, higher quality, and increased cost efficiency.” For the realization of a new energy system, the industry must prioritize developing digital talent, infrastructure, and a regulated asset base (RAB) for digital solutions.
The Six Global Demonstration Projects
At the heart of the Global Electric Power Summit were six highlighted
demonstration projects:
- - Brazil's CEMIG: Showcases a digital, intelligent power network.
- - Guangzhou Baiyun Power Supply Bureau, China: Features a new demonstration zone that synergizes distribution and microgrids.
- - Shaoshan, Hunan, China: A project centered on smart operation and intelligent diagnostics of the new electricity distribution network.
- - Jiangxi, China: Focuses on intelligent power supply and consumption.
- - Shaoxing, Zhejiang, China: Unveils a ±800 kV UHV (Ultra High Voltage) digital converter station.
- - Liaoning, China: Displays advancements in smart grid capabilities.
These projects illustrate effective practices that integrate the entire energy process in the smart technology era, underscoring the potential for digital and intelligent solutions at varying levels of energy infrastructure.
As Huawei moves forward, it will continue to leverage its strengths in
Information and Communication Technology (ICT). By employing a tri-fold framework encompassing metrics, architectures, and technologies, the company aims to collaborate with global energy firms, standardization organizations, and ecosystem partners to drive innovation and enhance the modernization of the energy sector, contributing to the overall prosperity of the ecosystem.
In conclusion, Huawei's dedicated efforts in developing these global energy projects reflect a significant stride towards creating a sustainable and resilient power system through the strategic application of AI technology. These initiatives emphasize the company's commitment to transforming how energy is produced, distributed, and consumed on a global scale.
