Join the Enchanting Yokai Parade in Nagoya This Summer

Dive into the World of Yokai

The vibrant streets of Osu, Nagoya, will transform into a mesmerizing realm of folklore and fantasy on August 3, as the "Osu YOKAI Hyakki Yako Parade" presented by the "Moving Yokai Exhibition NAGOYA" makes its much-anticipated debut. This captivating parade celebrates Japan's rich folklore, bringing to life an assortment of mythical creatures known as yokai, combining them with the spirit of the summer festival in Nagoya.

This parade is not just a dazzling display of art and tradition; it is an engaging experience aimed at both adults and children. With roughly 100 unique yokai expected to participate, attendees will witness a vibrant procession right in the heart of Osu, a district renowned for its eclectic mix of shops, culture, and historical landmarks. The parade is set to kick off around 3 PM, and the joyous atmosphere promises an unforgettable experience for all ages.

About the Moving Yokai Exhibition

In conjunction with the parade, the "Moving Yokai Exhibition NAGOYA – Imagination of Japan" will run from July 19 to September 23, 2025, at the Kanayama South Building (formerly known as the Nagoya Boston Museum). This exhibition uniquely combines traditional Japanese artistry with cutting-edge digital technology. Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of yokai through stunning visuals powered by 3D CG, projection mapping, and holographic displays, making it a groundbreaking immersive art museum.

The exhibition showcases celebrated works from various eras, including the Edo and Meiji periods, featuring the famed "Hyakki Yako Emaki" (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons) and other traditional yokai art forms. Each piece will be brought to life through dynamic projections and realistic sculptures, recreating the whimsical and humorous characteristics of yokai in an engaging way.

By collaborating with the Nishio City Iwase Bunko, Japan's first antique book museum, and the Yokai Museum in Shodoshima, this exhibition also delves into the culture, history, and contemporary connections of yokai within Japanese pop culture.
