Permag™ Expands Its Magnet Production

Permag™, the only producer of samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnets based in the United States, has taken bold steps to enhance its manufacturing capabilities. This significant expansion, set in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, aims to ensure a resilient domestic supply chain for critical magnet technologies. The company's investment is a multi-million-dollar initiative focusing on enhancing their Electron Energy Corporation (EEC) facility's production capacity.

This expansion program, which kicked off several months ago, is projected to double the manufacturing output at EEC. It integrates advanced alloying, pressing, and manufacturing technologies to meet the rising customer demand both through Permag itself and its subsidiaries, Dexter Magnetic Technologies and Magnetic Component Engineering (MCE). Such strategic developments are designed to position Permag in alignment with the accelerating needs of industries reliant on SmCo magnets.

Meeting Global Demand

Permag™ is striving to achieve compliance with DFARS 252.225-7052 for neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) and SmCo magnets well ahead of the 2026 deadline, which is set before the January 1, 2027, compliance date.
