From December 25, 2025, to January 4, 2026, this unique educational initiative offers children a chance to learn about marine life through engaging activities and firsthand experiences with the ocean’s wonders.

Founded in 1970, Kamakawaii Seaworld is known for showcasing over 800 species and 11,000 marine animals. Since 2014, the Winter School has provided young learners a platform to connect with and learn about marine animals directly from knowledgeable trainers and caretakers. This year’s program is poised to offer invaluable educational opportunities that promise both fun and enlightenment.

Program Highlights

The Winter School consists of various hands-on activities for children, emphasizing direct interaction with marine creatures:

1. Orca Observation

Students will witness the majestic orcas up close, learning about their characteristics and capabilities as trainers provide insightful commentary.

2. Sea Lion and Seal Observation

Participants will discover the differences between sea lions and seals, including their unique traits and swimming techniques, introduced by caretakers.

3. King Penguin Observation

Children will learn fascinating information about king penguin breeding, including egg size and care within their habitats, guided by our team.

4. Beluga Observation and Interaction

An up-close encounter with belugas will allow participants the rare experience of touching their melon, promoting a deeper appreciation for these beautiful creatures.

5. Fish Feeding and Observation

Kids will engage in a fish feeding activity, gaining insights on what types of food the fish eat and how they are cared for.

6. Sea Turtle Observation

Participants will also observe and interact with turtles, further enhancing their hands-on experience.

7. Reflective Learning Session

The program will conclude with a reflective classroom session, enabling students to discuss their learnings and experiences.

Important Details

The Winter School will run for a total of seven days, accommodating up to 45 participants each day. Here are key details you need to know:

• - Dates: December 25, 2025, to December 29, 2025, and January 3, 2026, to January 4, 2026.
• - Location: Kamogawa Seaworld
• - Assembly Time: Participants are to gather by 12:20 PM at the special reception next to the main gate, with events commencing shortly after.
• - End Time: The program wraps up at 4:00 PM, with children being picked up at the main gate.
• - Eligibility: This program is open to elementary school students who can engage in group activities away from their parents for part of the day, costing 2,400 JPY (including tax).
• - What to Bring: Students should come prepared with writing utensils, a water bottle, and sneakers. Please avoid bringing bottles, boots, or sandals as they are prohibited.
