Discover the New TANKER AMAZING Nylon at Wako Ginza
From July 20 to July 31, Wako in Ginza is hosting a special event titled "The New TANKER AMAZING Nylon." This limited-time exhibition takes place at the Arts and Culture section of Wako’s main store, featuring PORTER’s iconic TANKER series, celebrating its 90th anniversary since the brand's inception in 1935.
The TANKER collection, born in 1983, boasts an innovative edge developed through a collaboration between Yoshida & Co. and Toray Industries. It proudly introduces the world's first mass-produced nylon made entirely from plant-based materials, known as EcoDIA® N510, set for a remarkable 2024 release. This groundbreaking initiative draws inspiration from the founder of Wako, Kintaro Hattori, who famously stated, "Always stay one step ahead of the times."
Fans from around the globe will rejoice as the TANKER collection makes its triumphant return to Japan after being showcased in major cities such as London, Berlin, and New York. At this event, attendees will explore the unique transformation process of materials like corn and hemp into nylon, along with the rich narrative behind the new TANKER line. Wako will present a full lineup of 40 distinct models in every available color—an extraordinary opportunity to see the entirety of the collection in the Ginza area and indeed throughout Japan.
Attendees will also find glimpses of the TANKER collection in the shop windows on Harumi Street and along the metro promenade, inviting passersby into the enchanting world of TANKER.
As Wako Arts and Culture celebrates its first anniversary, the themes of craftsmanship, Japanese aesthetic principles, and sustainability come to life through the vibrant showcased works of made-in-Japan excellence.
