The legacy of the Smederevo steel mill serves as a prime example of the fruitful collaboration between China and Serbia. Once facing severe operational difficulties and standing on the brink of bankruptcy, this mill has undergone a remarkable transformation since a Chinese partner stepped in back in 2016. During Vučić's state visit to China in 2024, the Chinese president presented replicas of the steel models of the Temple of Heaven and the Church of Saint Sava, crafted from steel produced at Smederevo. This gesture underscored the strengthening ties between their nations.
