ENJOY! YOUR MILK: A New Perspective on Dairy for Students
Today marks the launch of the video campaign 'ENJOY! YOUR MILK' by J-Milk, aimed at high school and university students. This initiative focuses on promoting milk consumption and usage through a fresh approach that encourages youth to enjoy dairy products their own way. Two videos, a promotional piece and a short drama, will be rolled out across supermarkets, convenience stores, and social media platforms from March 16, 2026.
Recognizing that school lunches are no longer provided to many in this age group, the campaign aims to reflect the real experiences of the current generation. The goal is to reignite interest in milk among young adults, who have notably decreased their consumption—nearly 90% of surveyed high school students admitted they seldom drink milk since school lunches have ended. This phenomenon is what J-Milk refers to as the 'second weaning period,' focusing on promoting milk to a generation undergoing a change in their relationship with dairy.
As part of the 'Milk for Smiles Project,' initiated in December 2022, J-Milk works collaboratively with dairy professionals to promote milk drinking beyond the school setting, especially on weekends. The current video campaign stems from this broader effort to engage students who may feel distanced from natural dairy products.
The Videos
PR Video
The promotional video is crafted based on values discovered through surveys and workshops that show students select their milk consumption based on personal tastes. It encourages young adults to view milk not as a necessity but as a source of enjoyment that can be tailored to individual preferences. The key message is, 'ENJOY! YOUR MILK,' inviting viewers to rediscover dairy products in a fun and relaxed manner. The aim is to dismantle the conception of milk as merely a must-have and redefine it as something delightful and personal.
Short Drama
The accompanying short drama addresses the realization that, although traditional white milk may not be consumed regularly, many still engage with dairy in different forms, such as lattes or protein shakes. It features a relatable romantic storyline, appealing to the interests of high school and college audiences while subtly affirming dairy's place in their lifestyle.
The videos will initially debut on social media platforms, with highlights including the J-Milk official accounts on X, Instagram, and YouTube. For additional visibility, the promotional video will be featured on in-store signs within select supermarkets and convenience stores from March 16 through March 30, notably in locations such as Aeon Mall and FamilyMart across various prefectures.
Collaborative Efforts
The 'Weekend Milk' initiative predominantly targeted at school-age children and their parents has now shifted focus to high school and university students, theorizing that this demographic is likely to distance itself from milk products following the end of school-supported meals. Insightful data gathered through surveys indicated that about 80% of respondents feel disconnected from milk, while nearly 40% engaged with milk-related beverages like milk tea or protein shakes at least twice a week, many unaware they were consuming dairy at all.
The workshops involved brainstorming sessions with 11 students and 4 dairy industry representatives, allowing participants to discuss the production process and the roles played by farmers, manufacturers, and retailers. Innovative ideas emerged during these discussions, leading to a creative direction for the videos, ultimately capturing the essence of how today's youth relate to milk.
Photos captured during the workshop show eager student participants interacting with industry professionals, all working together to shape the narrative that will resonate with their peers.
The Bigger Picture
In an age where dietary habits are continually evolving, J-Milk, together with other dairy organizations and stakeholders, strives to strengthen milk's presence in young people’s lives. Not only does this initiative provide a foundation for practical consumption habits but also serves to cultivate a broader awareness and appreciation for dairy's nutritional benefits.
