Tokyo Launches New Online Consultation Service for Childcare Support

Tokyo's New Online Consultation Service for Childcare

In an effort to alleviate the burden on parents involved in childcare activities, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has expanded its childcare support services by introducing an online consultation platform. This initiative allows parents to gather information about childcare facilities and make visit reservations through a user-friendly digital interface.

Beginning November 20, 2025, this service will be available across 11 municipalities, enhancing convenience for parents as they navigate the sometimes complex process of finding suitable childcare. By enabling parents to schedule consultation appointments online, the Tokyo government aims to reduce physical visits to offices, thereby minimizing not only the burden of travel but also the potential wait times during busy hours.

Features of the Online Consultation Service

The new online consultation service offers several features designed to enhance accessibility for parents:
1. Flexible Scheduling: Parents can choose from designated consultation times set by their local municipality to book their appointments.
2. 24/7 Availability: The booking process is available online at all times, allowing parents to plan discussions at their convenience.
3. Remote Accessibility: Consultations can be held from any location—whether at home or work—making it easier for parents to fit this into their schedules.

How Parents Can Use the Service

To access the online consultation service, parents can visit private childcare support websites such as “ensagasou♪” by BABY JOB Inc. and “hoiciL” by Kodomon Inc., or check the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Childcare Support One-stop Portal Site. This easy access is designed to empower parents with the necessary resources to engage in effective childcare activities.

Participating Municipalities

The service will be available to residents of the following 11 municipalities: Minato, Koto, Suginami, Itabashi, Adachi, Hachioji, Akishima, Chofu, Musashimurayama, Tama, and Nishi-Tokyo.

Positive Feedback

Early responses from parents indicate a strong approval of the service. Many parents expressed that being able to schedule visits between their parental duties is a significant benefit, while others appreciate the ease of making appointments online rather than needing to make phone calls. Feedback such as “the time required for childcare activities has notably decreased” has been common.

Overview of the Childcare One-stop Service

The Childcare One-stop Service is a comprehensive online platform provided by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and GovTech Tokyo. It allows parents to conduct all activities—from searching for daycare centers to submitting enrollment applications—through a single online portal. This service aims to streamline the process of collecting information about available facilities and making reservations, ultimately reducing the time and effort required from parents amid their busy schedules.

Increases in Engagement

The push for a digital approach aligns with broader strategies outlined in the 2050 Tokyo Strategy, emphasizing a digital transformation that will improve residents' quality of life (QOL) and enhance governmental efficiency (QOS). The integration of such technologies not only supports parents but also contributes to a smart city initiative that aims to make life easier for all Tokyo residents.
