Geospatial Technology Unveils a New Digital Map of Earth at GeoNow in Deqing
Transforming Our World: The GeoNow Conference in Deqing
From October 20 to 24, 2025, Deqing, located in eastern China, became a hub for innovation and collaboration as it hosted the second edition of the United Nations' GeoNow conference. With over 1,000 delegates representing 60 countries, the event highlighted the significant impact of geospatial technology on our future. It served as a platform where high-level discussions met on-the-ground innovations and cooperation, particularly focusing on global challenges that technology could help address.
Among the key highlights of the conference were discussions around sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the practical applications of geospatial information technologies. With climate change concerns rising, countries shared innovative solutions aimed at disaster management, including flooding and oil spill response strategies. Notably, students from African nations engaged in projects leveraging Chinese technology to combat these issues and their potential impacts.
One remarkable initiative was launched by a graduate from Sudan who devised solar-powered network solutions equipped with artificial intelligence. This innovation aims to mitigate power outages, demonstrating the effective intersection between education, technology, and real-world applications in environmental settings.
The strong collaborative spirit at GeoNow made way for initiatives that tied together diverse talents and ideas from around the world. Not just a knowledge-sharing event, the conference marked the location of the newly established
