Upcoming Sustainable Workshop Event 'Tanoshii Hagukumi'

From April 29 to May 6, 2026, the second installment of the sustainable fair "Guruguru, Tsunageru" will take place, featuring the workshop event "Tanoshii Hagukumi". This event offers a unique opportunity for families to engage in hands-on learning while promoting sustainability.

The first installment of the fair, held in March, showcased the gourmet event "Oishii Megumi," focusing on delicious meals utilizing underused and surplus ingredients. This initiative successfully utilized 40 kg of wasted barley and 48 kg of leftover bread within just two weeks, selling around 2,600 meals and demonstrating a thriving circular economy through food.

Encouraged by this positive response, the upcoming workshop event will be hosted at the "Machiai" event space in the Takanawa Gateway City, opening its doors on March 28, 2026. Moving beyond just eating, this event expands into learning, creating, and experiencing sustainability. Families will delight in six engaging workshops that explore the ingredients used in the first installment and the circular processes behind them. Activities include egg shell painting, pizza making with locally sourced wheat, and more, providing opportunities to connect with the stories behind our food.

Participants in the workshops will also have the chance to enjoy some of the popular dishes featured in the first installment of the fair.

"Tanoshii Hagukumi" aims to transform the simple act of eating into an interactive learning experience. 1. Egg Shell Painting: Using eggs from chickens raised on leftover bread, participants will create beautiful carp kites while learning about the upcycling process.
2. Dream Cake Making: Families collaboratively create a cake that represents their dreams, fostering creativity and conversation.
3. Local Wheat Pizza Making: Participants will make personal pizzas from domestically sourced wheat, learning about the wheat's cultivation process alongside enjoyment.
4. Bread and Beer Pairing: Attendees will have the chance to make their own bread using local wheat flour and learn about the processes of creating beer from leftover bread.
5. Sustainable Craft Workshops: Using scraps from sustainable sources, families can create wooden barrels or chopsticks, emphasizing the importance of valuing materials.
