Collaborative Efforts in Manga Editing: Insights from the Joint Study Session
On July 23, 2025, a meaningful event took place at the Kamiikeda Tokiwa Soul Room, managed by the non-profit organization LEGIKA based in Shinagawa, Tokyo. This event brought together a group of six different companies in the manga industry for a collaborative study session designed to enhance editing skills and foster networking among industry professionals.
A Welcoming Space for Learning
The gathering was initiated by Mangatari Co., Ltd., which hosted a specific session focusing on lightning talks (LT), a format popular in the engineering field aimed at sharing knowledge in a concise manner. LEGIKA called on several key players in the manga editing and publishing world, including representatives from its own project, Regi Studio, to create an atmosphere of learning and exchange.
A total of twelve participants took part in the event, each making brief presentations of about five minutes. These presentations were then followed by lively discussions and Q&A sessions, emphasizing the collaborative spirit of the meeting. Participants expressed that such interactions were invaluable for enhancing their skills and expanding their professional networks within the manga community.
Fostering Contemporaneous Connections
One of the main aims of this joint study session was to break through the corporate boundaries and foster a sense of camaraderie among editors. By encouraging collaboration across different organizations, the event is expected to contribute positively to the overall development of the manga industry. By connecting editors with authors and various stakeholders, the hope is to create a space for co-creation that adds new value to the field.
Before the study session began, attendees were also treated to a facility tour at the Kamiikeda Tokiwa Soul Room. This new space, opened on July 1, 2025, represents the largest development in LEGIKA's Tokiwaso Project, boasting 55 rooms and approximately 500 square meters of shared space.
A Multifunctional Hub for Manga Creators
The Kamiikeda Tokiwa Soul Room is envisioned as not only a residential area for manga creators but also as an adaptable venue for workshops, events, and seminars. Its spacious common areas promote interaction and collaboration, making it an ideal location for future gatherings and professional development activities.
The facility aims to host not only individuals interested in moving in but also various participants engaged in the manga industry, including creators, editors, and education facilitators, allowing for ongoing engagement and collaboration. Interested parties can get in touch via the Tokiwa Project’s inquiry form for possible tours and discussions about participation.
Looking Ahead with LEGIKA
As LEGIKA continues its mission of supporting creators and advancing the manga industry, opportunities like the joint study session at the Kamiikeda Tokiwa Soul Room will be an integral part of its strategy. The organization emphasizes its commitment to nurturing networks and fostering creative talents in the manga sector.
In conclusion, this collaborative effort highlighted the importance of continuous learning and cross-industry networking in the manga world. It set a solid foundation for future initiatives aimed at enhancing the professional landscape of manga editing and production.
