An Open Letter from Robert Stryk to President Vladimir Putin

Dear President Putin,

My name is Robert Stryk. I am an American, born to a Ukrainian immigrant, and a pacifist at heart. I feel compelled to reach out because the ongoing violence between Russia and Ukraine deeply concerns me. It is my firm belief that this senseless bloodshed must end, protecting not only the lives of Russians but also the Ukrainians who suffer as a result.

As a libertarian, I hold steadfast beliefs in the rights of political opposition, religious minorities, and the LGBTQ+ community. It is vital for individuals to have the freedom to express themselves, practice their faith, and live their lives as they choose. A robust nation should not fear the liberties of its citizens.

I assert that President Donald J. Trump represents the only leadership capable of ushering in a resolution to this conflict. The United States does not seek the abandonment of Russia's patriotism, culture, or national identity. My doctrine is simple: modernize, but do not westernize. Russia can harmonize prosperity, innovation, and individual opportunities without relinquishing its unique identity.

Moreover, Ukraine deserves the recognized right to exist as a sovereign nation and the independence to decide its own future.

When examining the fabric that connects Russians, Ukrainians, and Americans, it is evident that we share much in common—family ties, faith, courage, national pride, and the yearning for freedom. We must not allow ourselves to be divided by senseless conflicts while far more pressing dangers loom larger.

On one end, the Chinese Communist Party aspires to dominate economically and strategically. On the other, violent Islamist extremism threatens our way of life. Rather than exhausting our energies in conflict, the United States and Russia should unite against these threats.

Furthermore, we should not let trade be a reason for discord with the West due to dependency on Beijing. A pathway exists—one of peace, commerce, private enterprise, property rights, investment, and capitalism. The human resources in Russia could yield greater strength through prosperity, rather than through relentless warfare.

President Trump believes in dismantling the barriers that prevent people from living freely. He regards strength, sovereignty, and national pride with respect. He is capable of negotiating a peace that does not humiliate Russia, abandon Ukraine, or condemn new generations to suffering.

However, he cannot achieve this alone.

President Putin, I urge you to consider this message as a genuine plea from an American and a child of a Ukrainian immigrant. Engage in serious dialogue with President Trump. Choose the future of the Russian people over another year filled with tragedy and loss.

Force can trigger wars, but only responsibility can bring them to an end. President Trump stands ready.

The decision rests with you.
