Viettel Celebrates 20 Years of International Growth and Success
Viettel Celebrates 20 Years of Global Expansion
On the occasion of its 20th anniversary in international business, Viettel Group commemorated a remarkable journey that has seen the Vietnamese telecom giant rise to prominence as a multi-market operator worldwide.
Beginning of a New Era
Viettel embarked on its global journey in 2006, marking its first overseas investment with a foray into Cambodia's telecommunications sector. Over the course of two decades, it has successfully expanded its footprint to 16 countries, which includes operational markets and representative offices. Currently, the company effectively manages telecommunications networks across 10 international markets, securing the top market position in seven of them.
Impressive Financial Growth
Recent financial reports highlight Viettel's robust global performance. In 2025, its international ventures generated a remarkable net revenue of approximately VND 44.27 trillion (around USD 1.74 billion), reflecting a 25% increase compared to the previous year. This achievement marks the highest revenue level since Viettel began its investments abroad.
Moreover, net profit after tax also saw an impressive surge, reaching VND 11.25 trillion (around USD 442 million), a 57% increase year-on-year. Profit attributable to the parent company similarly grew by 65%, exceeding VND 9.3 trillion (approximately USD 365 million). These figures indicate a significant improvement in the efficiency of Viettel’s international investments, with a capital recovery ratio of 92% by the end of 2025.
Contribution to National Economy
The financial success of Viettel’s international operations has not only boosted the company but has also aided the Vietnamese economy as a whole. In recent years, Viettel has contributed approximately USD 350–400 million in repatriated cash annually, serving as a stable source of capital inflow into Vietnam.
At the anniversary celebration held on March 28, the company was honored with the prestigious Hero of Labour award, one of Vietnam's highest state recognitions for organizations excelling in innovation and productivity.
Recognition from the Government
General Phan Van Giang, a high-ranking official, delivered remarks at the ceremony, emphasizing how Viettel’s achievements illustrate its pioneering spirit and technological mastery. He noted that the company has transformed from a domestic operator into a global technology player, fostering cooperation between Vietnam and its international partners.
Future Growth and 'Go Global 2.0'
Looking ahead, Lieutenant General Tao Duc Thang, the CEO of Viettel Group, shared ambitious plans for the company's next chapter. Viettel is set to expand its telecommunications services further while venturing into new sectors such as digital technology, high-tech industries, e-commerce, and logistics. With a target of achieving a minimum annual growth of 20% in global operations, Viettel is transitioning its strategy from focusing solely on investment to a broader vision termed 'Go Global 2.0'.
This new approach aims to showcase the capabilities of a Vietnamese high-tech and technology conglomerate in international markets, contributing to a heightened global presence for Vietnam's tech sector.
As Viettel celebrates twenty years of international success, it remains poised for further growth, driven by a commitment to innovation and excellence in telecommunications and technology. With clear goals in sight, Viettel is not only enhancing its own prospects but also positioning Vietnam as a notable player in the global telecommunications landscape.
