Riyadh University of Arts: A New Era in Arts Education
Official Admissions Opened
In a landmark announcement, Riyadh University of Arts (RUA) has officially commenced admissions for its first cohort of students. This significant milestone marks the opening of the first university in the Middle East and North Africa dedicated solely to arts and cultural education. Scheduled to launch its academic programs in September 2026, RUA aims to become a global hub for talented artists and a center for cultural exchange.
Comprehensive Academic Programs
RUA has revealed eight groundbreaking academic programs that will blend arts with technology and business principles within an interdisciplinary framework. Offering disciplines across four core colleges—Film, Music, Theater, Performing Arts, and Cultural Management—RUA is designed to prepare graduates for leadership roles in the global creative economy. This program is not just about rote learning; it incorporates hands-on experiences, industry-led projects, and opportunities for international collaboration, ensuring that students are well-equipped to excel in their future careers.
These innovative programs have been meticulously developed in partnership with distinguished global institutions. Collaborators include USC School of Cinematic Arts, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, AMDA College of the Performing Arts, and ESSEC Business School, providing students with a world-class curriculum rich in diverse perspectives.
Prestigious Scholarship Opportunities
To attract exceptional talent from around the globe, RUA is introducing a distinguished scholarship program for the 2026-2027 academic year. Two key scholarship categories have been established:
1.
Exceptional Talent Scholarships: Tailored for students showcasing extraordinary creative accomplishments, these scholarships offer partial or full tuition coverage, excluding admission and application fees. Candidates will undergo a holistic admissions process involving auditions, the submission of artistic portfolios, and personal interviews. This initiative is designed to support students whose work demonstrates originality and artistic merit, enhancing the global cultural landscape.
2.
Specialization Scholarships: Aimed at students entering strategic priority disciplines, these scholarships provide full tuition coverage (excluding admission fees) for programs within the Colleges of Music and Theater & Performing Arts. This initiative seeks to empower emerging talent to hone their skills and forge ambitious career trajectories in the creative industries.
Vision for the Future
Noha Kattan, Deputy Minister for National Partnerships and Talent Development at the Saudi Ministry of Culture, emphasizes RUA’s commitment to establishing a global creative hub. "This is not merely a response to regional demands. We are building a powerhouse that will attract and nurture the finest talent worldwide, all while showcasing Saudi Arabia as a center for creative excellence."
As part of RUA's strategic roadmap, the university plans to expand its academic offerings. By 2027, RUA will introduce three additional faculties: the College of Design and Architecture, the College of Visual Arts and Photography (in partnership with the Royal College of Art), and the College of Heritage and Civilization Studies (in collaboration with SOAS University of London). This expansion will strengthen RUA’s international network and enhance interdisciplinary cultural education.
Looking further ahead, by 2030, RUA aspires to provide a comprehensive ecosystem comprising 13 colleges that cover diverse areas such as fashion, culinary arts, museum studies, literature, and cultural education. This comprehensive approach aims to foster an environment ripe for artistic innovation and creativity, establishing a legacy of cultural dialogue and entrepreneurship.
