On July 26th, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the Gunma Direct Sales Council, "Megurunma," in collaboration with Palsystem Gunma, is hosting a delightful farming experience at the fields of Showa Village, Gunma. This event welcomes around 70 families who are eager to harvest freshly grown corn in a hands-on environment, connecting with producers and fellow participants alike.
The farming event marks the second session of a two-part corn harvesting initiative. Previously, in June, families participated in preliminary activities, such as weeding and preparing the crops for harvest. The excitement now builds around experiencing the joy of picking corn and indulging in the delight of tasting the freshly harvested produce right on-site.
The venue is hosted by a local farmer, Tokuhiko Miyata, whose dedication to sustainable agriculture shines through this interactive event. Participants will get to engage directly with the producer, allowing an invaluable opportunity to learn about the intricacies of farming and the effort that goes into growing food.
Following the corn harvest, attendees will be involved in tidying up the farm, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the agricultural environment. Additionally, a unique tractor ride experience is planned, offering participants a different perspective on farming (subject to weather conditions).
Previous Event Highlights
The first farming experience session on June 8th featured both farming activities and a tasting event, which further excited families and engaged the community with local agriculture.

This collective aims to foster better understanding between producers and consumers while promoting local produce consumption.
Through these initiatives, the council strives to enhance sustainable agriculture, encourage healthy living, and contribute to vibrant community development in Gunma. Palsystem Gunma is committed to creating a nurturing environment for children to grow, both in spirit and in connection to agriculture. Apart from corn harvesting, annual programs include growing crops like edamame in Isesaki and other agricultural experiences that facilitate bonding over farm-fresh produce.
