Richardson International Finalizes Acquisition of 8th Avenue Pasta Business

In an exciting development for the agricultural and food processing industry, Richardson International Limited has announced the successful completion of its acquisition of the pasta business from 8th Avenue Food Provisions, Inc. This strategic move is set to bolster Richardson's operations in the U.S. and increase its vertically integrated supply chain capabilities.

The acquisition, which was made official following regulatory approvals, adds significant assets to Richardson's portfolio. This includes not only a durum mill but also three pasta manufacturing facilities located in Carrington, North Dakota, New Hope, Minnesota, and Winchester, Virginia. Carrington serves a dual purpose, encompassing both durum milling and pasta production. Significantly, this acquisition also includes the Ronzoni® brand, a well-known name in the pasta sector.

Richardson’s President and CEO, Darwin Sobkow, emphasized the importance of this acquisition as a vital step in the company's growth trajectory. The integration of 8th Avenue’s assets will strengthen Richardson's fully integrated business model, extending from sourcing durum wheat to producing semolina and finished pasta products. “This aligns with our vision to deliver value-added food ingredients through a vertically integrated supply chain connecting farm to table across North America,” Sobkow stated.

The expanded production capabilities will enhance Richardson's ability to serve a diverse range of customers across retail, foodservice, and ingredient channels. With a commitment to innovation and growth in the pasta market, Richardson aims to capture new opportunities and improve its offerings in this competitive sector.

Richardson has a long-standing reputation as a leader in agriculture and food processing, operating as a global player in the grains and oilseeds market for over 168 years. The company’s dedication to sustainability and operational excellence is reflected in its approach to supply chain management and community engagement.

Thor Richardson, President of James Richardson Sons, Limited—the parent company of Richardson International—praised the acquisition as a continuation of their legacy in the food industry. “This acquisition builds on that legacy, extending our ability to deliver quality food ingredients to customers across North America. We look forward to continuing to earn that trust as we welcome 8th Avenue employees and customers to Richardson,” he remarked.

With this acquisition, over 500 team members from 8th Avenue will join Richardson’s workforce in the U.S. This includes operations staff who will integrate into existing channels, while sales and commercial personnel will transition to the Richardson U.S. Country Office located in St. Louis, Missouri.

Richardson International remains steadfast in its commitment to operational excellence, focusing on safety, reliability, and making meaningful contributions to the communities where it operates. As they embark on this new chapter with 8th Avenue, the company is poised to strengthen its market presence and drive sustained value in the pasta business.

In the journey ahead, the company anticipates collaborative efforts with new colleagues from 8th Avenue to further advance quality and innovation in pasta production. With a renewed focus on creating value-added food ingredients, Richardson aims to solidify its position at the forefront of the North American food industry.
