Strengthening Your Listening Skills with C&R's Lunchtime English Seminar
From September 1st, the Creek and River Company (C&R) will launch a free online seminar designed to boost the listening skills of individuals working in the creative industry. Understanding the increasing globalization of the creative sector, this initiative aims to make English language learning accessible and enjoyable during lunch breaks. The seminar runs for just 15 minutes each Tuesday, allowing participants to effortlessly improve their language proficiency while enjoying their meals.
Chris Larimore, who has lived in Japan for nearly 30 years and currently manages the language business at C&R, will lead the sessions. The seminar consists of two main segments: "Listening Basics" and "Understanding English Texts." Participants can either join in during their lunch hour or simply listen in as they eat.
What to Expect
The first session, running from 12:15 PM to 12:30 PM, will cover an interesting theme related to significant dates, such as "National Tofu Day" or the unveiling of Michelangelo’s "David." With the help of simple vocabulary, Chris will introduce the historical context of each theme, making the learning experience engaging and insightful.
From 12:45 PM to 1:00 PM, the seminar will shift focus to a quiz based on a piece of English text discussed in the previous session. This second segment aims to reinforce understanding and encourage practical conversation skills.
Learning a new language can be daunting, but by repeatedly hearing phrases and vocabulary, participants will gradually train their ears to the sounds of English. This seminar is ideal for those who have not used English since school, want to interact with international creators, or are seeking a boost in their English proficiency for various business needs.
