Huawei and China Telecom: A Noble Mission
In an inspiring development at the MWC 2026 in Barcelona, Huawei and China Telecom were recognized with the prestigious GSMA GLOMO award. This accolade highlights their innovative efforts under the Tech4Good category aimed at improving the lives of children and young individuals. The project, called Qingjiao, is designed to bridge educational gaps in rural areas of China and demonstrates the powerful role of technology in fostering accessible education.
Launched in 2019 in the Langchang district, the Qingjiao project, developed by the China Social Entrepreneur Foundation (CSEF), utilizes China Telecom's 5G network and Huawei's WeLink platform. Together, they create a robust online community offering educational resources and training for teachers serving students and educators in underprivileged regions. According to Cui Yangyang, director of Huawei’s TECH4ALL program office, "Qingjiao meaningfully bridges the urban-rural divide in education equity, providing today’s youth in remote areas with the necessary educational tools to thrive in a digital world."
The project's impact has been substantial. So far, nearly 180,000 teachers in rural sectors across China have been trained, indirectly benefiting tens of millions of students. In Langchang, specifically, 600 educators have received training, positively influencing around 5,000 students.
The GLOMO jury, comprised of over 200 independent industry experts—including analysts, journalists, researchers, and technical directors—was greatly impressed by the Qingjiao initiative. They remarked, "It is noteworthy for its scale and potential to benefit a vast number of young learners, providing a comprehensive solution through connectivity and educational resources."
Partners Driving the Qingjiao Initiative
The CSEF plays a crucial role in identifying exceptional educators from all over China, empowering them to share their expertise and resources online. Through enhanced online pedagogical support, the program aims to bolster the capabilities of rural teachers, ultimately improving student outcomes.
Huawei’s WeLink Cloud platform delivers an interactive online educational environment, linking schools, students, and teachers. This enables under-resourced students in rural areas to access multimedia-rich, remote education, ensuring they share equal learning experiences with their urban counterparts.
Meanwhile, China Telecom provides essential 5G infrastructure and optical networks, facilitating nationwide connectivity services for rural regions. Their integration of campus networks ensures seamless connectivity and efficient management of various terminals between mobile and fixed networks.
At this year's awards, Huawei's TECH4ALL initiative, particularly the Skills on Wheels campaign, was also nominated for excellence in marketing under the category Marketing for Good.
