Unveiling the Importance of Sustainable Energy
From May 17 to 18, the Tokyo Big Sight hosted the groundbreaking "TOKYO GX ACTION" event, a significant gathering focused on clean energy initiatives aimed at fostering a transformative shift from a fossil-fuel-based society to one centered around renewable energy sources. This initiative, known as Green Transformation (GX), is a concerted effort driven from Tokyo itself, aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 from the levels recorded in 2000, ultimately striving towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The event served as a platform for discussing crucial actions needed to pass on a sustainable Earth to future generations. The discussions revolved around the importance of choosing sustainable food options, utilizing renewable energy, and reconsidering daily transportation methods.
One of the highlights was the opportunity for participants aged 16 and above to learn about rules surrounding specific lightweight motorized bicycles without needing a license, and to experience various vehicles in action. Attendees had the chance to try out both the ChatBike and ChatKart, two innovative models being showcased during the event. Furthermore, a prototype of the hydrogen fuel cell version of ChatBike was displayed, developed through a partnership between academia and industry.

Simultaneously, the Formula E Tokyo E-Prix graced the event, a thrilling spectacle that has grown in prominence since its inception in Beijing in 2014. This FIA-approved championship series features formula cars powered solely by electric motors and batteries. The competition emphasizes the efficiency of energy usage, constantly pushing the boundaries to optimize the duration of peak power.
The Tokyo edition of the championship, now in its second year, saw Nissan's Oliver Rowland clinching the first-ever victory for the team on home soil during the final day of racing, garnering excitement and pride among attendees. Despite the heavy rainfall on the first day, the event organizers allowed the unique experience of navigating the official Formula E course aboard the hydrogen fuel cell ChatBike—a remarkable interaction between innovation and sustainability.
Defining What Truly Sustainable Energy Means
Reflecting on the event, a pressing question emerged: "What constitutes truly sustainable energy?" GX represents a shift from fossil fuels to clean alternatives like electricity and hydrogen; however, the essential energy sustaining this transformation seems to be the human spirit, or "willpower." While industries thrive during favorable economic times, it is the unwavering passion and belief cultivated through challenging periods that often sustain progress.
Although it appears that nations like the US and China might be outpacing Japan in the electric vehicle arena, there is optimism in the idea that by fostering this "willpower", Japan can reconnect with its path to a luminous future. The sense of unseen, potent energy was palpable at the event, particularly with Nissan's victory in Formula E.
Labelled the "lost 30 years", it’s crucial to acknowledge that the fire within Japan’s workforce across various fields has not been extinguished; it’s merely lying in wait for the chance to ignite again.
This event reaffirmed the necessity of translating that "willpower" into actionable steps to bridge generations, and to maintain the momentum established by parties like Hundredths Corporation, which passionately works towards more engaging and thrilling developments in the mobility industry without capitulating to power or regulations.
Moreover, we are seeking members for the "TEAM ebesah" which endeavors to invigorate the mobility sector together. With the recent release of the "Shake Em Off Edition" model, we aim to satisfy users yearning for more excitement beyond lightweight vehicles, launching products that fit under the motorcycle and mini-car classifications.
In conclusion, gratitude extends to all those involved in the logistics and execution of the Formula E public street event and the TOKYO GX ACTION for their hard work and dedication. There is great anticipation for next year’s events to continue advancing towards a more sustainable future.
This report coincides with the debut of Da-iCE’s image song "Sanctuary" from the TOKYO GX ACTION event.
