JAL Announces Continuation of Fuel Surcharge for International Flights Through Early 2026
Japan Airlines (JAL) confirmed on October 20, 2025, that it will keep the existing fuel surcharge for international flights for tickets issued from December 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026. This means the surcharge amount remains the same as the current level applied for tickets issued in October and November 2025. Travelers can expect consistent pricing during this period.
JAL adjusts its fuel surcharge bi-monthly based on the average fuel market prices from the prior two months. For August and September 2025, the average price for Singapore kerosene was $85.72 per barrel. When this figure is converted to Japanese yen, using the average exchange rate of 147.80 JPY to 1 USD during the same periods, the surcharge calculates to approximately 12,670 JPY. Consequently, the fuel surcharge for flights issued during the winter of 2025 will follow the established amount outlined in the Zone G structure (12,000 JPY reference).
Applicable Period: Tickets issued from December 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026.
Fare Amount: Pricing is calculated per one-way segment for travelers departing Japan.

1. For tickets issued between December 1, 2025, and January 31, 2026, the surcharge amount will not change, regardless of fluctuations in air fuel prices. However, adjustments may occur based on government approval, potentially affecting the surcharge amount, adjustment periods, or applicable dates.
2. Details about the fuel surcharge for tickets issued from February 2026 will be announced in December 2025.
3. If the bi-monthly market average drops below 6,000 JPY per barrel, this surcharge will not be applied.
1. The surcharge applies equally to adults and children. Infants under two years of age, who do not occupy a seat, will not incur this charge. Additionally, customers using JAL Mileage Bank international award tickets will also be required to pay the surcharge.
2. If refund requests are made post-purchase, cancellation fees will not apply to the fuel surcharge.
