In a significant development, Samsung Electronics has announced an expansion of satellite communication support for its Galaxy smartphones. This initiative is part of their ongoing partnership with major telecommunications providers across North America, Europe, and Japan. By February 27, 2026, selected models, including the Galaxy S26 series, will begin to offer satellite communication functionalities, enhancing user safety and improving mobile experience through next-gen communications technology.

In today's AI-driven world, having stable connection options is more paramount than ever. Satellite communication systems enable vital communications during emergencies or in areas where traditional mobile networks are unavailable. In recent years, satellite technology has emerged as a notable method for achieving seamless connectivity across commercial mobile networks. Since 2025, Samsung has been offering satellite communication features in select Galaxy flagship and A series models, with ongoing efforts to expand supporting devices and enhance AI experiences across Galaxy products.

As Samsung continues its satellite service expansion, it will be governed by regional network environments and regulatory requirements. This strategy involves strengthening collaborations with telecommunications and satellite service providers, making satellite messaging and data services accessible for a growing number of Galaxy users, especially in regions lacking traditional mobile network coverage.

Regional Partnership Highlights for Satellite Communication

In the United States, Samsung has collaborated with T-Mobile's "T-Satellite with Starlink" initiative, introducing satellite communication services for certain Galaxy S21 models and later in 2025. This includes features like text messaging and satellite data communication. Additionally, Verizon will support eSOS and text services for all flagship models starting with the S25 series. Collaborations with AT&T are also underway to enhance satellite service offerings.

In Europe, Virgin Media O2 will enable satellite communications on select Galaxy smartphones. A pilot project with MasOrange is set to begin in Spain in March, while Vodafone is also collaborating to expand capabilities within the region.

Meanwhile, in Japan, Samsung's partnership with KDDI will bring satellite communication features to the Galaxy S22 series and onward, beginning in 2025. This enhancement will include text communication, satellite data services, and emergency alert mail (ETWS). Beginning in 2026, collaborations with SoftBank and NTT Docomo are expected to introduce satellite support for additional Galaxy flagship models. Efforts with Rakuten Mobile will also be strengthened to broaden service compatibility gradually.
